I can't figure it out:

My guess is that it was used to place the tip of the bow on the top of the shoe.

Yup, powder pouch used by tournament archers back in the day.  They sold anywhere from $1.50 to $3.50 each.  I have a couple of quivers with the pouch attached to them.  Archers would put baby powder in the pouch and then tap their glove/tab on the white sponge spot in the middle which released the powder on to the glove to give the archer a smoother release.

They also sold a smokers clip for a $1.00 which clipped to the quiver to hold the archers smoke while he was shooting.  The old catalogs are great to look at and compare prices and accessories with todays archery.

Thanks, my guess was way off.  Do they sell something similar now days, or have the tabs become better.

They were used by tournament archers and not so much by todays trad shooters. I haven't seen them in any of the newer catalogs.

As is this one, you can find then occasionally on E8AY.

I would expect that Olympic trad shooters still use them.

The most important part of your hunting setup is the broadhead.  The rest is just the delivery system.
