Going to hunt the old girl this year

I picked up a 67 1/2 Kodiak Hunter from Jack Shanks about a year and half ago. Did a refinish and it shoots well, 58" 43# at 28". Some fellas I know have been buying and sell some vintage bows lately and it got me all nostalgic. So today I made some arrows to look the part with Razorheads and feathers that Cyclic rivers gave me for my birthday. I plan to hunt locally this fall with it just to say I can. I got my first bow in 68' so it will be like being a kid again, only moving a bit slower....lol! Anyone else going to hunt with an old friend this year??   ron w

Ron- It sounds like you've made a great choice.In my opinion there is nothing that compares to stepping out into the fall woods with a vintage bow in hand.I will be doing the same,i'm just not sure which bow I'll be using.Too many choices,from a solid osage Grumley bush bow to a '59 or '60 Kodiak,possibly a '64 Kodiak or '69 Super Kodiak,and last but not least,a type I wood B-riser.Doesn't matter what you use,as long as you enjoy it and I know you will.Have fun.

Oh Yea, if Bowdoc gets it finished in time, I'll be hunting with my '57 Kodiak W/Repro '57/'58 arrows. If the Kodiak doesn't get finished, I guess I'll fall back on "Old Faithful" my '58 Grizzly. Good Hunting Fellas....

Good choice. A buddy's first Bear was the same bow in 48lbs and it popped a limb after all the decades he hunted so we found another one identical. They are shooters, no doubt about it.

Hunting with a 52 Bear Cub longbow this year. 46lbs and I've got a couple choices of original old arrows with original heads from the 40s and 50s (plus some loose heads from then too)to choose from as well as a few Sweetlands shafts Im working on that another TGer was generous enough to supply for me but I had to find "the right" feathers to fletch them.



Something is definately added to the hunt when one looks back to decades past, chosing from Fred's, Ben's, Bill's ...and others contributions to us all.

Many here have known this and done this for some time....so I'm a newbie at it but I think it will "stick" for my remaining seasons.

I will be hunting elk with my 56 Kodiak. I just bought a green stripe takedown B handle I was hoping to hunt bear with.

Trouble with having more than one bow is deciding which one to use. I picked up a Grayling A handle last winter that I shot for the first time a couple weeks ago. I think I have found my go to bow for this hunting season.

If I canot sell my 67 Kodiak, I will join you in a "Bear Hunt" this fall.  Even if I do sell it I have 7 others to choose from

Kodiak
67 hunter, 73 special, 58 special

2 76er's

1 Bear ranger  

Yours was sending the arrows down range great!  No doubt it will get the job done.  No doubt all these bows are great to look at and shoot.

the ones in my head or the 65??? yeah that would be great, was going to bring the bow to get the whole thing refinished but its auctually in great shape! i'll bring it to ya next weekend. did you want any of the aluminums?

I plan to use more tham just one of my vintages.
For sure my Type1 A riser and maybe one of my SK.

Plan on hunting a '69 Tigercat and a '62 Grizzly, both 48#@28 but drawn close to 30". CX 150's with 100 gr.beveled inserts with Bear greenies or Zwickey deltas. Two months to go.

Just bought that same bow from Blackhawk in 48@ and it is a sweet shooter.  The grip suits me perfectly.  

Haven't decided how much I will hunt with it - that will be up to the next couple months of shooting.

Mine is 43# @ 28" and I draw 29", that darn thing really spits an arrow.........

I've got a 47# '67 Grizzly that I hunt with...

I was gonna bring it up to Kenny's mountain to hunt with you guys this fall,but it looked like all you guys were totein' longbows so I was figureing on bringing up my Mikuta instead...

I'd MUCH rather hunt with my Grizzly though!!!
