I lowered the shelf to a knuckle grip, filed the plate area to about 1/16" more toward center-shot, then sanded & refinished the entire bow to a high gloss poly finish. About a dozen coats on the riser and 5-6 on the limbs. Shoots great.

Very nice looking.  Did you sand around the silk screens and lettering,  or did you replace them?  Also, what kind of finish did you use?

Great job

Thanks guys.  The original silk screens were preserved, sanding to the edge of them then finishing over top. The finish is gloss Minwax poly, wiped on w/ a lintless cloth.  The top bow is a '66 Kodiak that I've owned twice.  Sold it once, regretted it, then bought it back. It was Bowdoc's and I originally bought it from him.

Yes, the wipe-on-poly works great.  One more coat on my '58 Kodiak and she'll almost be done....new leather grip and arrow rest left.

Again, great looking bows!

Excellent Job!!! Looks fantastic.

I have a bow out waiting to get a shelf job and reworked grip. I can't wait to get it back!!!

Also, very cool story on the '66.

Thanks Nick. The altered shelf / grip makes a better shooter for me, points quickly.
If I had a place to spray I'd learn to use the epoxy type finishes.  The poly looks nice but whatever Bowdoc and Droptyne use is a much harder finish. I've used poly and tru-oil and both scratch fairly easily.  Of course it's pretty easy to fix, just buff w/ 0000 steel wool and wipe another coat on the bow.  :archer:

very nice work on the Super looks outstanding and yes I surly do miss the old 66 myself that was a back up bow I used for hunting until I got another set of limbs for my T/D in the same length and weight as that 1966....and no no way do the limbs shoot as good as the one piece bow did.I'am glad to see it still in service great shooter bd

One of you experienced Super K remodelers want to do a "build-along? Shelf and finishing.  Thanks

I think there is a thread where Bowdoc shows the process.......I'll see if I can find it.
