Just got a Bear Mag TD C Riser,

The paint is pretty rough. I was thinking of stripping it and then painting it.

Should I remove the Medallion? If so what's the best way to do it.

Any tips on removing the other hardware?

thanks

Last time i did one i took off the 2 hinged latches with 2 screws each, taped all else carefully, roughed it up and shot finish. Jim

Thanks, I found the thread with the hot bolt trick.

Will have to give it a try.

The hot bolt works really well with the inlaid medallions I'm not to sure how well it will work on the button style ones. All the other hardware is held on with screws. If my memory serves me correctly the button style has a  stem which fits into a small hole in the riser. You will be able to see it when you take off the sight window plate. Hope this helps.

If it's a mag riser, take the plate off the sight window and tap it out with a punch..
Square shank press fit in a 1/4" hole, that is drill through to the cavity under the plate.
You will probably have to glue it back in as the shank will probably be a little smaller going back in.

I can say don't just pry it off. The plastic stem will snap off sure as chit.
Also, I am not really sure I would try the hot bolt trick on the raised "plastic" medallions. I have done it with flush metal ones, but would be leary of this on the domed ones...

PS: Is this the riser you have for sale on a different forum?

Do what Earl E. says. Just be careful removing the super small screws from side plate. Use the correct tipped screwdriver for sure.

Just took the plate off.  You can see a copper post in the center of the medallion. I will get the arbor press out and see if it will slide out. Just need to make support with a hole so the medallion has a place to go.
