Why not an Alaskan?

I recently bought a "69" Alaskan 45@28 62". It performs very well and will make a great hunting bow. I wonder why they arn't more popular or more valuable??? Opinions please!

I have a '58 Alaskan dual shelf that shoots great. I know other bows are popular, but the Alaskans and Polars are good shooters, at least what I can gather from mine. Hope to find some other Bears this year, especially a '58 and '59 Kodiak.

My sons bow is a 69' Alaskan. Its 62" 25@28. I play with it every now and then. It shoots great. If it was heavier I would use it......Roy

I can see where the white limbs could be an issue to some, but limb covers work nice!

I may have to take mine on hunt before the season is over here in PA.

I have quite a few of the dual shelf Alaskans and I really like them alot. The black and orange glass is very cool looking and they shoot great.

How popular a specific old Bear bow is can change quite a bit from time to time. I picked mine up from TG members and a few off **** too. But only when the price was right!

I have 2 dual shelf Alaskans and really like them. I know they made them, but it seems hard to find them in the 55# range.

One thing I noticed is that my green one stacks a lot more at my 30" draw than the black and orange one, which is smooth all the way out.

I have seen 1969 Alaskans with zebrawood and they were nice looking bows.

The only problem I have with these bows is they do not have laminated tips. If you have a 1969 Alaskan that you want to use a lot, I'd laminate the tips.

I have a '58 Alaskan that I got from Jeremy, it's a great shooter too. It's a little heavy for me at 58# but I can shoot it better than most of the other '58s in my collection. The extra weight helps clean up my sloppy release!

I'll definitely be adding a "Alaskan" and a "Polar" to my collection. The 67 "Polar" is a beautiful bow and what Alaskans Bear bow collection would be complete without a "Alaskan"?

I typed 58 too many times I guess, Mine is actually a 56# draw weight. I will let you know if I decide to part with it.

Picked up three old Bears today from a fellow. One is dual shelf Alaskan orange on the belly and black on the back. From reading this post I'm guessing 1959? It's a light weight version at only 26# but a nice looker non the less.

I'm glad you're still shooting that one!  It's one heck of a nice bow and if it weren't so heavy at my 30" draw it'd still be on my rack
