I was out shootn  this afternoon and my bottom finger was gettn sore so I dropped it and I was still gettn good groups my bow didn't have any more noise or anything so does any one else shoot 2 under instead of 3. I shoot a 52# buffalo at 27 1/2"s so its not like its a heavy bow or anything.   Mike

Mike, I find myself on occasion letting up tension on my index finger as I draw to help keep my elbow down- I shoot split finger, and It seems to help. I have not noticed any negative aspects in my shooting. I was worried I might start plucking the string and that doesn't seem to be the case.

I shoot 2-under and have for the past 4 years.

It makes sense to me ---- though I could be wrong ---- that 2-under, if you have sufficient finger strength, is better than 3-under because the shooter has less physical contact with the string.

Look at the mechanical releases used by compound shooters.  All of them feature very little string contact.  If more string contact led to better accuracy, wouldn't those mechanical releases be designed differently?

I have played with it a little while messing with 3 under.  I had difficulty getting a clean release probably because I had to hook extra deep to feel like I had control.  I think to shoot that way well, you would need pretty good finger strength as mentioned above.

Several years ago, just a few weeks before a big spring bear hunt, I tore ligaments in my ring finger on my string hand. I was basically forced into shooting two finger. To my surprise I shot great. There really wasn't any transition period for me. The culmination was a perfect shot on a big Canadian black.

If you have 80 percent of the string pressure on the finger under the nock like the coaches say you should, then shooting 2 under will give you a cleaner release.  I know I shoot a lot cleaner with my two finger split draw I use.  I always drug the third finger.

I also shoot two split finger and shoot much more consistant and clean.

I shoot three under and drop the bottom finger as I come to full draw, making it two under.  Shoot better than three left under.
