She has never shot a bow in her life till today. I bought her this at Christmas and this is her first time trying it. I am very pleased, but constructive comment would be appreciated.

For first time thats great, just keep an eye on that forward loose.

S.C. Hunter

Pretty nice! She won't need a lot of help. I've seen people shooting 6 months not shoot that well.

Rob DiStefano

really quite good for a first timer.

however, she has a "dead" release - no bowhand follow through, where the hand moves rearward and in line with the arrow.  something to work on, because no follow through means no back muscles are in play.

She looks real good but there's definitely a little collapse at release.  Looks like she needs to maintain tension through conclusion.

Rob DiStefano

push - pull.

bow hand punches forward, string hand flys back.  these movements can be anything from slight to exaggerated.

Thanks guys, I was trying to get her to develop back tension. I had her hold the riser across her chest and try to pull it in half, I said do you feel that that is your back muscles working and they should come into play when you draw. Its an easy idea to talk about but harder to put into action.

hova

looks good to me. im no expert , but have her hold a 5lb weight out in front of her for practice. looks like her bow arm is a little shaky.

otherwise , i cant believe she let you hang that bag in the kitchen...

Its a photo studio not a kitchen...no way would she let me hang a bag in the kitchen LOL.

TSP

Her bow isn't twisting in her hand (good), her draw hand is not flying out from her face (good), she is drawing to anchor (good), her draw elbow is in-line with the arrow (good), and she's plugging the bullseye pretty darned well.  That she is a first-timer is impressive, she'll get better with practice.

Nice job!

:clapper:   I go along with TSP.  For a first time shooter she is doing better then some I know who have shot for a time.  As he stated, with time she will get better, no one gets it right the first time, at least no
one I have known.  CONGRATS!!!    :archer2:

Seriously, first time?  That's great!  What weight bow did you start her out with?  My wife has casually mentioned shooting....I told her it would break her nails....my archery habit is expensive enough as it is....lol.

Just because you are passionate about something, doesn't mean you don't suck at it.

canshooter

The bow is 22lbs at 28". I just got her 6 arrows for now. The guy at the store offered her 3 different types of arrow that were spined for the bow. She didnt ask price, just said "the purple ones look nice I'll take those"...typical!

jerseyboy

Awsome.. i think you should keep her! Unless of course she starts shooting better than you at which time you might consider trading. Seriously looks great for a first timer, she must have a good instructor
And in the end when i can no longer draw the bow or watch the arrow embark on its flight;when i posses only the spirit of the hunter, i will hunt.... if only in my dreams... because the hunt is born amidst my soul, and i... i am the hunter

Robert Honaker

Dang dude, better be careful. She will out shoot ya very soon looks like.

LONGSTYKES

Purple sounds good, you have a winner with Helga. I wish I could get my wife too shoot with me.

LOL! My family thinks I'm crazy shooting indoors thru the length of my house with a huge Styrafoam target block - but it works and I have never missed my block! Sure works nicely when it's 20 degrees outside and nasty out! LOL.
