Looking for a fadora type hat

Well I went to the dermatologist this week to have a few spots checked out. One on my ear was precancerous. Nothing to serious, but she recommended I start wearing a hat with a brim that go all the way around. So, I need some recommendations?

Depends on what yo are looking for.  you can find something for cheap or you can spend thousands on custom fit hand made.

You will have to consider the environment you are wearing it too.  is it a hunting hat?  all the time hat?  do you want it warm, breatheable? lots of factors and chances are you will be looking for more than one hat...

Just google Scala or Dorfman-Pacific and find your style preference.  I like the Scala D-50( don't know if they still call it that), but i doubt you could shoot a bow in it as the brim is wider.

Size is paramount. If you have a big head, like me, make sure you measure your noggin before ordering. You probably should do that regardless of head size when ordering on line. Scala hats are highly recommended and not over priced.

Looking for an all around hat, but would like to have brim that would work when shooting my bow.

Good quality fur felt hats can be pricey, comparatively.  The low-crown model from 3Rivers is nice, and with a 2-1/2" brim it makes shooting easy.  I really like mine.  And I've gotten good service and longevity from the cruiser fedoras from Cabela's and Bass Pro.  I have found straw hats for warm weather use easier to find, and either I'm rougher than I think, or the durability just isn't there.  So with straw, I buy inexpensive models and just trash them for a new one frequently.

You want a brimmed hat that is advertised as one that folds.  It will do what you want and the brim won't interfere with the string.

I wear a Bass Pro rebranded Scala outback hat all winter long.  It came with a cheesy and tacky camo hat band so I wove one from some cheap leather lace from hobby lobby one night when asked to join my wife for a chick flick; I had to google the weave and found instructions on some paracord craft website.  I put a leather antler burr on it as well.  I get complimented on it by both men and women at least 3x a week.

In summer time I wear a Tilley TH5 hemp hat.  I get compliments on it as well but not as frequently as my wool hat.

Both are water resistant, block the sun, help regulate the temperature on my head, look good enough to wear into work with my button up shirts, but are tough and durable enough to keep up with my outdoorsman lifestyle, can be washed at home, are foldable/crushable/packable, and move out of the way of my bowstring when hunting.  My wool hat was probably $50 or so including the leather lace and my Tilley was a gift but they run around $75 I think.

I have worn a fedora wool felt hat for a long time.  I had to find one where the brim would fold up out of the way of the string, because I can't stand it when the string hits my hat brim.  It sort of makes me look like Gabby Hayes with the brim folded up out of the way, but that's the way it is.  I look at Byron Ferguson shooting in his big ol' stiff brimmed safari hat, and I wonder how he does it.

I bought both my fedoras from Baileys.  The one I hunt with has a 2" brim and doesn't interfer with the string.

I just got one from Bass Pro. This seems to be a generic style fedora hat that I have seen in many outdoor stores. It works fine and handles rain well. No need to spend a lot of money for suitable hat.

I have a wool stetson that looks kinda like the Fred Bear fedora. I'm not sure if they make this exact model anymore as it was my grandfathers hat. A Jones style hat could fit the bill for hunting. You can still find those around the internet. I have my dads old jones hat and its my main bowhunting headgear. Pretty water resilient and has the little bug netting that can flip down over your ears and the back of your neck. Nice short brim too and it works well with a hood over it.

A bucket hat might be a good way to go too. You can get them in cotton for summer.
