Aluminum and wood arrow spine?

How do u determine what aluminum and wood arrow size is needed?  I understand carbon arrows but I'm new to traditional archery and having trouble figuring it out. Have a Timberghost Smoke and a Timberghost 3 pc recurve. Both r exact same specs. 49# @ 28" and I draw 26.5"@ 46#.  Thanks for any help.

Use your draw weight at your draw length. Figure out how long you want the arrow to be at the back of the point, then use the charts to figure what spine you want for that length. Recurves usually will allow a bit heavier spine than you figure so you have a bit of wiggle room. Of course different length and point weight will change the equation. Start long/slightly weak and cut the shaft back a bit at a time to tune.

I shoot a Chekmate Attila recurve 47# at 26" using 2016's at 28.5", 145gr tips, and FF string that shoots bullet holes paper tested. This is right on with the 3 Rivers chart recommendation. However for wood I've found best flight so far between 5-10# above what the 3 Rivers chart recommends for my draw weight.

I like to look at the charts and advice on arrowskp.com. Simple, and functional, from a highly knowledgeable source.

Your bows are cut pretty well past center, so you might go one spine group higher than the usual.

The length of your arrow to back of point, and the point weight you're wanting to shoot, will affect what spine you'll want, if you tell us that, we can help further. For wood arrows, I'd figure that a 55-60 spine, 27.5" BOP, with a 145 point would be mighty close. I'd start tuning it with a little longer arrow, cut down 1/2" at a time and/or go up or down a little in point weight to tweak.
