I am thinking about buying my first custom longbow.  Are there any modifications I should request of the bowyer given I shoot 3 under and will most likely use a fixed crawl?  Should the shelf be cut slightly higher or the tiller changed?

Rick Richard

Tiller needs to be at least even. May not be a bad idea to think along the lines of ILF if you are going to do fixed crawl, string walking or any other non traditional techniques.

Thanks.  I am wanting a Maddog Prairie Predator.

I run 1/8" negative tiller on my longbow and I shoot two under with a 7/8" crawl. The bow is quiet and shoots great. I still have a higher nocking point but not as high as a positive tillered bow.
But his bow will remain steady, and his hands will be skillful; because of the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,  (Genesis 49:24 [NETfree])

Yes, just ask him to tiller it even. Should be an option on his order form. I had my custom tilled even and I shoot split finger. I have my ILF bows set the same way. I see no difference but then agian I an'it crack shot.

I'm shooting 3 under and all my bows are tillered even.   Bows are quiet with no hand shock.  Arrow flight is fine.

Let the bowyer know how you intend to shoot the bow.  He will need that info.
