there are some many great characters in bowhunting and they are all great contributors to the sport. but the first name that came to mind was fred eichler. he has such enthusiasm for it and such a great attitude hes a great example for how to really enjoy bowhunting.

My favorite bowhunter is my long time friend and mentor, Ron Laclair !  He taught me so much and he was the best woodsman.  We spent many a hunt together and he was the one who got me started shooting longbows!  Thank you Ron and you'll always live in my heart and you'll always be my HERO !!!  Tom Rogers  (Horserod)

"Tarz" Terry Green is my bowhunter idol - and trust me, I ain't suckin' up to the Boss.

I have been fortunate to have hunted with Terry a bunch and his archery, bowhunting, and woodscrafts skills are second to none.

Plus, Terry's just an all around good ol' fun boy to boot!    :campfire:

My favorite bowhunter is Tom Jenkins, better known as " Rooster" Tom exemplifies what a bowhunter really is. He has no other hobbies or interest other than bow hunting. No matter the season or the animal he is hunting, his weapon of choice is his recurve bow.

Tom is also a bow hunting historian. Ask him any question about a well known bow hunter and he'll give you the answer without looking it up from his notes, it's locked in his autobiographical memory.

Tom is responsible for putting together a hard cover book on the first 60 years of Michigans bowhunting history. A truly remarkable book that will enlighten many future bowhunters how bowhunting was started by Fred Bear and others in michigan.

I have hunted with Tom and his father Tom Sr. in upper michigan for many years and I can say without a doubt that Tom is the best tracker and woodsman that has been my pleasure of knowing and hunting with.

Tom is not a well known bowhunter but that is the way he wants it  but to his friends and those who know him and have hunted with him Tom is at the top of their list....he certainly is at the top of mine.

I second that nomination. Tom is the epitome of what Michigan bowhunting is all about. I have learned 90% of what I know about bloodtrailing deer by watching and listening to Tom. I actually named my Black Widow recurve "Rooster" in his honor.

Sitting with Tom in camp at ShrewHaven and just LISTENING is an absolute honor.

And only Tom and  few guys will know....when you find a set of stairs in the swamp...climb 'em  :biglaugh:

My son. Hunts for all the right reasons, loves traditional, and is a pleasure to spend time with.
I give the guys that got us here (Bear, Rothaar, Wensels, Pearson, Asbell, etc) tons of credit, not impressed with the modern day video warriors I guess.
