Badlands

Quote from: Tim Finley on January 08, 2020, 08:35:35 PM
I got rained out of the Badlands in ND ,then I was 2 days in NW South Dakota, a big blizzard was coming in and I had to race home . I went back to central SD in Nov. just in time to hit below zero weather 2019 has been my worst year . My 11 year old grandson got a buck though !

It was definitely a wet year hear.  The wettest I have ever seen.  I had to wear chest waders to get to some of my stands for a good part of the season.

For 3 years I waited for this buck and on Oct 26 6:15pm I had him at about 20 yds. It was raining, dark and miserable and I had to make a choice, shoot or don't shoot. I chose not to shoot and take the chance of losing him, 2 weeks later on the last day of gun season the neighbor shot him. He scored 161. Now I got to find another big one.

We have all been there.  This is a buck that I chased for three years.  Last year he almost caused me to lose my mind.  Id sit a stand and not see him Id crawl down at dark.  Id pull the card weeks later to find that he had been under my stand making a scrape ten minutes after I was gone.  Id sit a stand for four days straight and start thinking I was over doing it.  On the fifth day Id go sit a different stand in his area.  That was the day I would get pics of him in front of the stand that i just stayed out of.  I made one more sit for him before the rifle season in early November.  Got in early wind was good everything seemed good.  An hour and a half before dark here he came right down the pipe like he was supposed to.  He had his head in the corn at 20 yards with no shot so i figured I would stand up to be ready.   Unknown to me a little dink had snuck in behind me and was directly under my tree.  When I stood he jumped.  When he jumped the big guy turned and walked back into the cattails.  No snorting no stomping just gone.  He showed up after rifle season with a big wound on his front leg.  That was it for 2018[attachment=1]

48 and 1, that's an amazing string of success!! However, I bet you feel it's more than a fair trade to see Kiefer get his first buck! That is an amazing buck you had there, I am sure you had many others but after seeing that on I understand your passing on them. What a monster, he better hope he is as lucky next year!
