skychief

Do you Simmons users think a 40# recurve with a 450 grain arrow (head included) would penetrate well enough for whitetails?

Assume that the arrow is very well tuned!

Thanks for your thoughts.  Great thread.

Sky chief.

LCH

I shot three does with a 43# longbow shot through 2 of them hit the off side shoulder on the other one. I used a tigershark 475 grains. LCH

what is your draw skychief?

I assume you're using carbon..so you're looking at screw ins.

a 1 1/8 cut 3 blade head has 1 11/16" of blade cutting surface.
There have been lots of deer taken with them out of similar weight bows.

The wide sharks are either 1 9/16" or the really big one is 2"

If you have an average draw length you're most likely using a 175 grain or lighter head.

All of the sharks of that weight are 1 9/16" or less.

So I'd say if you have an average draw you'd be fine.

Great thread...I'm using the 175 tiger sharks for bear next month!  Should not be a problem with BW PLIII 53@28 and 550 gr arrows. (I hope!!)

165 grain Tree-Shark right through the offside shoulder. I did not get the giant hole some see with these heads, I think partly because of where it exited, partly because I shot from ground level at 8 yards away. This arrows was a Douglas Fir with 100 grain woodyweight and the treeshark. Total weight was around 860 grains.

Those Simmons are nasty. That's why I like'em.
