Bow Bum

Those simmons shark photos are crazy!

Suprised there is not more talk about those heads. They seem real sturdy.

There is a lot of good meat being wasterd with some of these monsters.

Thats what I was thinking, too. I have been eyeing those Phoenix heads, though.

The good meat is at the other end and imagine how much meat you would waste if you couldn't find the animal. My concern about the Simmons is how far they penetrate. They sure do leave a big hole but because of their size do they not penetrate as far? How hard are they to sharpen?

James Wrenn

I shoot rather light bows compared to many and never had an problem with shooting through deer or hogs with the big simmons. Most will be surprised when they see the arrow pop out the other side just like with there puny heads.:)This was with a 45lb bow short drawn to 22" to shoot behind the tree.I do prefer arrows around 500gns when shooting treesharks but bow weight is not something I concern myself with any more.

....Quality deer management means shooting them before they get tough....

Like Mr. Wrenn I don`t shoot heavy poundage. The Simmons design is proven and if you shoot 45lbs and up and 500 or more grains arrow weight I would not hesitate to use them on deer. The pic of the deer I killed with the big centuar is proof. The broadheads are near the same only the Centuar is 1 3/4 wide. I was shooting a 47@27 Widow longbow and 525 grain arrow.Arrow stuck in the dirt in the other side. The pig with the big snuffer sticking ouit of him was shot with a 48 @27 pronghorn longbow and 570 grain arrow. More than broadhead design it where you hit them. I`ve said it before...I`ve never lost an animal because of the broadhead I shot him with. The ones I`ve lost are because I made a bad shot.I have found animals that I may not have found using a smaller broadhead due to a lot of blood on the ground.Who knows.RC

Penetration problems??? Where'd the dirt come from.

I think I see some simmons 190 grain interceptors in my future !

Looks like a good head to me. Great shot placement Charlie!

That does it! I'm getting some Simmons right now. If I get an opportunity this year, I want it to count. Where I hunt here in Oregon, the brush can get pretty thick and I want a good blood trail.

Ok, just got off the 3R website and ordered some 135gr Tiger Sharks and some 32gr short BH adapters. Should give me around 167gr up front on my AD Trad Lites.

Mine are on the way!! Great way to break them in on turkeys.  I ordered direct from Dave at Simmons. Give him a call, he's a good guy!

I'd love to use the TreeSharks but I can't get them as sharp as I'd like.  I wish KME would come out with some convex shaped stones for their knife sharpener then I'd be all set!   :D
Chasing my kids and my degree for now but come next fall the critters better look out.  ;)

I use the accu sharp and a steel and get mine plenty sharp. Somewhere on here Chris Spikes "landshark 160" shows how to make them razor sharp. I hunt with him and can tell you that barely sharp is not good enough for him. They will shave hairs with little pressure.I tend to like a more serrated file type sharp myself. Works for us both.RC

I am impressed with the holes those Simmons heads leave. Gotta try em for myself. I don't have pics but the Zephyr Sasquatch leaves similar holes.
