got a mink fur coming in from 4runr and was wondering if anyone has tried it as a silencer, how well does it quiet bows?

i'm sure mink will work great as i have muskrat and it looks and works great!

man I cant wait for it to come in, gonna get a few sets of silencers, then use the rest to accent a quiver!

In my experience it looks great, but as a string silencer it's a little lacking, cat whiskers do a far better job in my opinion, and will be on my bow when hunting season gets here, every little bit helps.........Steve

Real fur over rubber,,, any day for me!

Mink works about the same as other furs.  I love the way it looks, but when I'm in the woods I want what works, so I'm with VDF on this one--cat whiskers for me.  Doesn't hold scent, doesn't hold water, doesn't hold burrs, lighter and work better.  Much easier to adjust for tuning also.

Sorry,,, I think that everyone shoots a selfbow.

I like the fur as rubber on a selfbow is just not natural.

Catwiskers are probably best with glass bows

Thin strips of mink, 3 or 4" long, stripped from old thrift-store coat, make the best silencers I've ever used, especially on fast "storebought" bows, such as Black Widow, that use fastflight string. However, in the rain it's worth than worthless ... so bad that last year I unstrung the bow in the field and removed the fur and finished the rainy hunt with no silencers. Rubber would seem the only all-weathr silencer material.

Mink works fine and looks great.I like the fact that you can remove it easy from your string and put it on another string or change it to another position on your string.It has the obvious drawbacks in rain or around burrs etc.If it gets wet give the string  few plucks and shed some water.

Osagetree, I agree, but i shoot 70+# glass longbows, just haven't found a selfbow I really liked that I could afford, been wanting to make one but with my neck probs I'll have to use power tools, and that just doesn't seem natural to me, so I kinda gave up on the Idea.

I really like the mink strips as silencers.  Can't tell much of a difference between mink and beaver as far as deadening the string.  And a mink hide will make many, many sets of silencers.  I like to use 4-5" strips. Looks great and make the string really quiet on a longbow.  Quiet like a mouse fart.

I shoot glass long bows with fur silencers. I think it works good and fur just looks cool!!

I've tried beaver and muskrat with good results. My favorite however is the muskox underfur call Qiviut. I got my last pkg. @ Cabela's, but you can also read about it and other fur silencers on the Alaska Bowhunting Supply website.
