I have decided to give my good friends son my compound, he is a good kid and has asked to buy it from me. This will mean that it's trad only for me now. After a year of shooting trad bows and with all the great people i have met and those that i know i will meet. I just have no interest in that kind of bow  any longer, i shot one arrow out of it yesterday and felt nothing. So why let it just hang there someone might better enjoy it, i don't any longer.

I too have recently gone completely "wheel-less" after shooting both for a long time.

Giving your compound to a friend's kid is a good investment for all. It will give him hours of good clean fun and an understanding of the natural order if he is a hunter. Try to shoot with him and encourage him to shoot your trad bow, so he can learn about the powers and romance that comes with bending a bow and watching the flight of the arrow. I shoot in a club that is predominately compound, many of the shooters are intriqued by my recurve but don't think that they could shoot one. I always tell them that anyone can shoot a stick bow, they just have to get the basics and trust their instincts. I always encourage the younger members to shoot my bows hoping that they will catch the fever. Good luck and keep flingin !!

Congrats...I also got rid of my compound this year.  I was a little apprehensive at first but feel liberated somehow.  I felt the same way, I just didn't shoot the wheels anymore because I didn't have a desire.  I however, made a little money on mine so my efforts weren't as pure but I did get a high-school kid into bowhunting for a nominal price...and he got the WHOLE kit and kaboodle!  Besides, his well-to-do uncle paid the tab so I didn't feel TOO bad!  

That's great Jim!!!! You're giving another the chance to get into archery and at the same time starting on a new branch of the trail yourself.  Starting the young off right is the best thing you can do for the future of bowhunting.

I'm happy for ya James! Trad Archery is alot more fun then shooting wheelie bows could ever be. Some people just don't get it. That's OK.

Hey! I'm at this Trad Game for eight years and still learning.  :rolleyes:  Still get the jitters before every 3D shoot or hunt. Just LOVE this stuff too much!

Nothing wrong with compounds...if it weren't for them I never would have got into traditional archery.  They are just different weapons for people at different places on the wonderful journey.  I just bought my nine year old son a new compound as I don't think he can ethically shoot his stick bow good enough for shooting at a live critter.

Mike , most people i know hunt and shoot them nothing wrong with that. My son shoots a long bow now and he is 11 you have to be 14 in NY to hunt deer with a bow. At that point i have hopes he will do it trad, but if at any time i or he feels he wont make ethical shots I'll get him a compound. Any bow hunting is better than no bow hunting IMO.

Amen James...you are a good dad and that is one lucky fellow you have for a son.  Wow...fourteen years is way to long to wait to hunt.  PA is twelve for archery and my dad used to take me when I turned ten.  I'm looking forward to getting to know you in NY next year at Ken's hunt.  I would be happy to be your guide next year in Pennsylvania if you want to get your boy started hunting before fourteen.  I can get you and him a shot at a doe but bucks are hard to come by in my zone.

I like does they taste great. I hunt meat first horns later, that is if a tasty young buck doesn't happen by    What are the requirements for a new hunter in PA? I'm going to get him his hunter safety this year so he'll be good for small game next fall. I have to look and see the age  that you can get an archery course in NY.

All that is needed to hunt is to pass a hunter safety course.  I don't know if PA would just accept a NY course or if you would have to take the PA course.  You could get an offical answer from the Pennsylvania Game Commission at:

Archery season generally runs from October 1st to November 15th.  There is a special three day junior rifle doe season in mid to late October as well.
