are there longbows that can shoot with the fastest recurves and still retain quietness
and lack of handshock my only experience has been with recurves i've seen some longbows lately that i think i'd like to own i'm a whitetail hunter and some hogs. Thanks in advance Ralph.

Quiet or not, I suspect the answer is, "No."

Besides the typical difference in center shot-edness (Nice word, eh?) and spine and mass of the arrows being launched, I think it comes down to a difference in limb tip acceleration.  I think (Just a guess, here -- I'd like to know what others think.) recurves can accelerate more quickly and "keep up with" lighter arrows better than longbows can.  There's no doubt: the target boys love those recurves!

But when it comes to launching heavy arrows - like when punching through pigs - longbows seem more effective.

my answers (or opinions) to your questions are:
1st. question..."YES"
2nd. question..."YES"
3rd. question..."YES"

there are R/D hybrid longbows out there that will give any 'wood/traditional' recurve a run for their money in speed. as far as quiet, longbow anytime. now handshock. my personal opinion is most bows do have it but there are "SOME" bows where it's hardly noticeable being a recurve or longbow. I think recurves get away without it being noticed as much due to the heavier mass weight but I have shot "SOME" R/D hybrid longbows and DID NOT notice it.

just my 2 cents worth!!  :archer:

Crow Creek Bows are exceptionally fast and smooth. I like the 3 piece Black Feather.

Guss

Check out the Centaur longbows, fast, light in the hand, no handshock and quiet!  Jr.

snufer

I'll second the Centaur, also, the Adcock ACS CX is extremely fast, (but expensive!)actually faster than most recurves that I have shot!

MRD

I'll third the Centaur.  As quiet and fast and forgiving a bow I have shot.  My recurve has more handshock than my Centaur.

ACS-CX, Black Swan, and Turkey Creek Double Carbon.  I don't know if they are faster than the "fastest" recurves, but they will be at the top of the pack in a longbow crowd.

My 2 Boys,My Wife,and I all shoot Mikuta longbows.

Absolutely no hand shock,Quiet as a whisper, and Fast as any recurve I ever shot,Even has a recurve style grip for positive hand placement EVERY time.

gonna check them out what amazed me at a shoot in Al.was how quiet a couple of the r/d longbows
were you literally could not hear them at 20 yds go off i believe if you couple good speed with that kind of quiet it has to be a lethal combination thanks Ralph.

I'm very pleased with the two that I own. A Turkeycreek and a Horne's Brushbow. They are quiet, smooth, fast, and very easy to shoot.

Outwest

I've got a new Widow PLGA that is plenty fast, quiet and smooth.
I think it shoots faster than my PMA11.

John

Hornseeker

Faster and Quieter and less shocky....

BigRonHuntAlot

I'll second the Crow Creek Longbows. I also have some praises for Horne's and Morrison Longbows. I am starting to become more and more interested in a long bow. LOL

I got a Stotler Gamegetter in a couple of weeks ago and I am completely impressed with the speed and quietness of the bow.

RER bows Vortex is a real quick longbow. It will shoot within a few fps of most recurves, the Centaur and OLs bows are the fasteset out there and that includes recurves. Any bow that boasts speeds of over 200fps. AMO 30" draw 60# weight and 540 grain arrow is smokin' and I know the last two I mentioned will do that and the vortex would be close behind. Shawn

vermonster13

Black Swan Hybrid is as fast as any out there. The top speed demons are all within a couple FPS of each other and the fastest can change with your release.

Would you say that these really fast longbows are kind of finicky on tuning, shooting form, etc., when compared to a milder r/d longbow, or do they just do everything better?
