Iam looking at getting a broadhead target from 3 Rivers. Have any of you tried stone points into this target and if so, did it protect the points?
I am just looking for a way to test my arrows without busting up some good points....Terry

I shoot into 2 old foam couch seat cushions taped together hanging in the air. I have shot a couple into grocery bag filled burlap sack but they were harder than heck to get out, but undamaged.

I shoot into a sand pile,,no harm to points

Sand pile dulls the head and is heck on the sinew.

i shoot mine into pigs and deer    

laying all jokes aside i shoot mine in a soft foam "homemade target" that comes from a friend who works a shop where they use foam between the walls of truck bodies, and i get a scrap piece of FOAM from him about once a year, works great on stone points  

I had a big block of styrofoam that worked great until my 8 year old son wore it out with his stone broadheads.  I guess I'm more proud than peeved...      

Will they hold up ok in a regular broadhead target like the Block or are they too hard to pull out?

I stuff a plastic groc. bag with more plastic groc. bags to the point where it is pretty stought.

Works great.  Oh yeh, you then have to hit the groc. bag.

Ozark, the stone/glass point will hold up fine, but they're dang tough on the target.  Pulling them out is a good test of how well they're hafted!

Thanks Woody, that is kinda what I was looking for. Sounds like learning how to haft them on real good is the answer. Since I don't have an old sofa laying around and hitting a Wally World size bag may or may not happen, I think I'll try the old broadhead target.

Not to change the subject, but were is a good place to get stone points from, I would really like to try and make some for hunting this year.

Terry cushions are eaasy to spot laying by the freeway or you can go to a furniture store and ask them for used stuff which they pick up when delivering new stuff.

Dave, there are a number of good knappers in Michigan.  Let me try to round up some contact info on a couple of them.  I bet they can set you up with some nice points!
