I am still on my first bow/ Entry level long bow. 68" 45@28. I was wondering if anyone ever went from long bow to recurve and never went back or visa versa..I 99% backyard target the other 1% will be killing MO. whitetail.I am thinking that 68" is going to hurt me from the tree.

I shoot both recurve and long bow...even in same day hunts...If I'm going to be in a tree or blind, I'll toat along my recurve, If I'll be stalking or on a 5 foot high water hole stand, I'll carry the LongBow...Its just what works best for me....sometimes I'll stalk with my longbow and have my recurve on my back. Just depends on how much room you have to move around in that tree...and don't shoot any bow from a tree stand without a hunter saftey bow vest...

I have shot deer with a 62" longbow out of a tree stand with no problem. I do use a 54" recurve out of my blind but plan on using my longbows this season out of trees and blinds. I don't think you will have a problem if you practice with the equipment you plan on using out of a tree stand. With a longer bow you will limit the radius that you can shoot in but if your aware of this it won't be a problem.

Geno,
I have hunted quite a bit from treestands with a 68" Big Five, and I have never found it to be a hindrance. Your cant may change, for instance, if you're taking a shot close in to the trunk, but that happens sometimes with a 60" bow too. If thats the bow your comfortable shooting, I'd say go for it.

Set-up your stand and practice from it. There is no other way to really know what will work for you.

Went from compound to recurve to longbow. I hunt from the ground or heights with a 66" bow with no problem.
