I sure wished someone had put up some knapping rock and knapping tools on the auction.  There has to be some extra laying around out there somewhere??????

That's an excellent idea.

Stringstretcher, We have some good knapping tools and a pile of rhyolite. We don't advertise it because there are usually guys around who specialize in primitive.

We are in Mebane, NC and are a sponser on Tradgang.
I make a few stone points and other items. I have the interest, but don't have the skills of some of the guys out there.

I was looking for that stuff too. Saw this thread and went to check it out. Like most of the things I'd like to have on the auction the price is already out of my reach.

Knapping tools can be fairly easy to make. If there are no time constaint's email me your snail mails and I can make y'all a few tools "on the cheap". With a few pieces or flakes of obsidian to practice on.

I could make up a couple sizes of pressure flakers, 1 or 2 boppers, a leather and a rubber hand pad(truck tire tread). Assorted flakes of obsidian. You would have to supply your own, bandaids, superglue, leg pad and safety glasses.LOL.

I'll be having back surgery June 21st. So I'll be looking for something to do to keep me occupied. Not that I don't already.LOL.But this would keep me up and moving around.LOL.

Here is an idea of what I have made.

Flakers,Just a matter of finding or making handles.Drill a hole for a set screw and a hole for the size copper rod or wire.If using grounding wire.Put one end in a drill, the other end in a vise.Twist the bejezus out of it till it won't twist no mo.Hammer out a point.Insert and lock in place with a set screw. Or you can use copper nails, but I think they are to soft. The twisting and hammering hardens the copper.

Boppers you just cut a length of pipe and solder on a cap.You can round off the cap using a carriage bolt but it is up to you. Then pour in some molten lead.

Linc, those turned handles on the flakers look excellent!  Very nice work!    :notworthy:

Thanks Woody. I only wish I turned the handles. I stole them from my wife.LOL. She had picked up some bags of misc wood pieces at a craft shop or some place like that. It had those (file ?) handles and the coat rack pegs. Needless to say "SHE WASN'T HAPPY WITH ME"    :o      :help:

I just picked up some nice heavy Oregon chainsaw file handles that I think will work out better.
