I'm looking for opinion on the new Bighorn bows from Ron Nelson.  Anybody shooting on of these?  How does it shoot, in respect to stablity, speed, and hand shock?  What about the fit and finish of these bows?

Thanks,

James

from what i know (correct me if i am wrong anyone) Ron was one of the head bowyers back when Asbel and king caviler owned the company. the company changed hands when it was bought by Bud Boker...im not sure if Ron worked for Bud, i dont think he did. after Bud passed away Ron started his own company under the name northstar. he uses the same forms so id assume the bows would be very similar in looks and performance.

rons bows are top of the line. he and his brother glen purchased the company but glen passed away and it took ron awhile to get things going again. top notch and smooth bows, check out his web site and give him a call you wont be sorry

Pete has it correct I believe for the most part. I did not know Ron was a bowyer when Asbel owned the company. I do that his brother Glen was Freds bowyer at that time and started Nothstar with his brother so that must be Ron. If he worked with Glen with Northstar then I'd say he probably knows what he is doing.
I can tell you I have a friend in Co. that is still shooting a Bighorn that he bought new in 1986 or 88. Its the only bow he shoots and hes not had a problem with it.

I have one to ... I bet it is one of those early days bow, it is T/D and the riser is laminated clear brown wood. It is not the nicest bow I ever seen but it still shoot good after all these years and that is the most important!!!

I bought my Bighorn from Ron on an "auction" earlier this year. I won the auction, emailed him my specs, and had the bow shipped to me in all of a months time. The fit and finish is great. I really like the grip also. I have not had any problem with handshock or noise at all. I'm very happy with the performance of it. Here's a couple of pictures.

I have two of his longbows, and am pleased with them both.
this is certainly a pointed conversation....
