I've noticed this with serveral bows I've shot, but not all. I prefere 3 under, but with some bows it makes them noticably louder. switching back and forth doesn't seem to affect arrow flight that I can see. What gives?

it is because the bow may not be tillered for three under typically you have to raise the nock point a little higher and it will probably quiet it down..

jmo though

You need to set the nock point higher. The arrow makes more contact with the shelf with three under especiallly when the bow is tillered for split.

Yep....you are bending the lower limb more, and shooting it out of tiller a bit when shooting 3 under if it wasn't tillered for 3 under.

so if I have one that's tillered for 3 under and shoot it split it should also be louder/different, right?

It really is a P.I.T.A. ya know? I've got these things shooting bullet holes in paper and flying just right, but I can't help myself from tinkering. LOL

You can put on a stick on rest or build up the shelf and make the arrow sit higher. You can take a rubber limb saver and cut a half moon shape and glue it to the riser, then cover it with leather or velcro. After you do this you can probably use the same nock height that tuned well, you just moved the whole set up 1/2,3/4" up.

No.  Shooting split on an even tiller does not increase the weight on the lower limb like shooting three under does to a split tiller.
