Thanks GDS a 61 KMag huh. Is it normal for the lengthways cracks in the glass? I've seen the across the limbs marks before but nothing like this.
Very normal for 1961 "Grayling green" limbs.

Thanks Dan. Is it shootable like that? (not that i will but just wondering)

Micky I think I read once the display models were defective not shootable and sent to dealers for display only. This was years ago before product liability was a big thing.Kip

Riser wood on the 61's wasn't fully dried and caused the glass to stress crack as it dried.. many were sent back for repair and ended up being painted to cover the cracks. Then they where star stamped and or the ser number removed to indicate they were no longer under warranty. Not sure if the Display where unshootable or if they where just bows that had been returned and the original owner wanted something else and were unsellable.. 63 Dog legs Type1's had holes drilled in them and then marked "Display"
I have a 61 Kodiak that is full of stress cracks, star stamped and no ser, number but it shoots great.
If the KM passes visual inspection, I would shoot it

That KMAG is worth some COIN mick. the other two are worth a bit also. But the Kmag IMHO is the top $$$$$. If it was say 50# and up you would be in for a big surprise on the E sight.<><

A Kodiak Mag that is almost identical to Mickey's- has the star stamp, serial number still on, but doesn't have the glass overlays on the back of the Riser- can you fellas put a year on this bow? Would the serial number be helpful?

Are the cracks in the glass repairable?

Thanks for help and information,

oh man that tamerlane is sweet!!!!

sight looks likes in purdy good condition, does it have an aperature?
Don't deal with me, I stole from the St Jude's Auction.

Mickey,

"Earl E" is the wiz, but I shoot mine and it looks FAR worse than yours.

I'm looking for a Kodiak in the same shape or better to fill out my birth year set. Of course like your K Mag, 61 Kodiaks are highly sought after and I'm cheap so it may take a while.

Beautiful bows Mickey and quite a find! I have an old 1962 Ben Pearson Javalina that has vertical stress cracks on the belly and back of the limbs and it shoots just fine. I got it a couple of years ago and shoot it often; the stress cracks in the glass do not seem to have gotten any worse with frequent shooting, but I do keep an eye on them. I've often wondered if stripping the original finish and applying an epoxy type finish would help, although in your case I'd leave well enough alone. Ya probably want to keep her as original as possible due to the collector value. If you plan on shooting her much and don't like looking at the cracks, how about skins? I'll bet someone could show you how to do that. LOL.
Congratulations on the windfall.
