I'm about to buy some shafts to make arrows and i'm stuck between Douglas Fir, Stika spruce, and Ash. Does anyone have any input on these?? Thanks for the help!!

When I shoot wood, Port Orford Ceder is my choice.

I've shot Douglas Fir and Sitka Spruce. Out of those two I like Sitka Spruce the best. Douglas Fir is a little heavier and a little stronger but Sitka makes a good arrow two. It is pretty strong and flexible so it doesn't break real easy. This is comparing them to Port Orford cedar which is what I have made most of my arrows out of. I still like Port Orford. And when you break one you get to carry around pieces in your pocket that you can pull out and smell. There's nothing like cedar.I figure just try them all. It's part of the archery experience.

Thanks for the help guys!! My first post was referring to raptor archery, so i called ted today and talked over some things with him and ordered some spruce shafts, points, fletchings, and nocks. So hopefully i will have some nice arrows in a few weeks.

Adam, you will love making your own wood shafts. I still make quite a few, but shoot carbon because of durability. Shawn
