I started looking for the next recurve I will buy next year:

It will be my primary hunting bow, in a 60 to 65# at my 27 3/4

It will have to be a take down

Here is the list I'm working with:

Black widow
Paul Schafer
Mariah thermal

I am looking for reliability, and reliability and...you get the idea!
What do you think?

Haven't shot the schafer or mariah, but I have a bob lee and a black swan and think the world of both bows.  The bowyers are both uncommonly helpful and back their bows to the hilt as well.
I liked the black widow someone let me shoot at a meet once as well.

Another less known bowyer is Foley Custom Bows.  I shot some at a little shop I found on my way the hill country in texas and was VERY impressed with their smoothness and quality.  They are also more reasonably priced than many bows.

All three of those bows are built to last. You really can't make the call without shooting each first. I have a Thermal and it has a lot of mass in the riser (macassar ebony) and is a very solid, stable and accurate bow.

Norbert,

Thanks for the feedback.

Here in Montreal, it is very tough to try the bows, so if there are friends from this board who would allow me to shoot their bows, I will be extremely happy.

I can't even try the loaner form BW!   :(

Manny, I don't know what weight you are looking for but there is a nice Thermal on the classifieds here on TG for a super price....

Ric at Marriah makes wonderful bows, but he may be backed up a bit. I would call him to see what his backlog is to make sure you could get it for next year.  Other than that, a great bowyer, a man of integrity, and sweet shooting bows.

Manny,
I have two of the three you mentioned, a 62" BW PMAIII that is 59#@28" and a Schafer 60" TD that is 60#@28". if we can work out a way to get the bows from my home in Florida to you and back, I can help.

manny, another good option to consider is mahaska bows, i got a second hand flatbow and it shoots hard and accurate, not to mention they are very affordable, kents bows start at 490 for the flatbows and longbows and i belive 490 for the recurves, just my .02

Manny we can work out a date and if anyone wants to loan you some to try, they can ship them to my house for you to shoot so they don't have to go through customs, if you're willing to ship them back on your dime.

Manny, I would add a Jack Kempf Kwyk Styk to that list, made in Canada as well. You could not ask for a more bomb proof bow!(Ask Guru)They also are pleasing to the eye and shoot with the best of them!! Shawn

We could try and coordinate a " Bow-In " where we converge on one spot with several bows. I am game to travel to meet some new friends and shoot some different bows.
