I've got 2 but this one is my favorite. My idea of the perfect hunting knife:

Man JC that thing is just Sick! I love it! That bighorn sheep on the handle?

Sho nuff is bighorn on there and the pics can't begin to do the knife justice. Doug is truly a custom maker, if you can think it up, he can build it.

So far I've got two peices of gear that I wouldn't change a single thing about, I consider them "perfect"...this is one of them. If I'm hunting, it's ridin on my belt...if I'm not, it's in a real safe place   :D

Bet that's got an edge on it! Ok you said two pieces of gear that are perfect....What's the other one.

I have a knife very similar to that made by Black Forest blades for 3Rivers Archery that I got back in the 90's, only the one I have isn't Damascus blade, and it has some nifty filework on it.

My DC Caper has the sheep scales just like JC's and is also Damascus as well. I love my Black Forest Blade as well and will have Doug make me one just like it if something ever happens to it. But I have to agree with JC that that little droppoint blade shape and handle with the finger groove up front is the most comfortable and maneuverable hunting knife I have ever wielded. I dressed and skinned 3 deer with it before I had to touch it up on a steel.!!

Mark

PS...I definitely think JC's is purtier than my BF blade though!!  :notworthy:

JC

LeRoy, my Morrison takedown recurve....wouldn't change a single thing. My new shrew is close...just wish it had the horsepower of my Morrison. My Swarovski binocs are close too, just wish they were lighter. But the Morrison and my campbell knife...well, if something can be perfect, these two are.

Anyway, yes, the steel is spectacular...cuts and retains an edge as good as it looks.

Mark, it's patterned after that knife which I think is the same one Ron LaClair had made as the Shrew skinner. It's processed 4 animals in the field now and in my mind is the best design I've had in my hands.

I thought maybe that's what it would be.LOL!! I sent 3 blocks of osage to Doug today and told him to pick the best one cause I couldn't decide. All of them have alot of red streaks running through them.

JC...just went to Ron's website and....yep that's the one! Only mine doesn't say 'Shrew' on it, and it has a mirror polished blade. GREAT little knife!

Here is a couple of pice of the caper Doug is finishing up for me. Beautiful.

JC,

I agree with you on the design of that knife. The Shrew Skinner is my favorite knife to use. You've got the best of both worlds; design and custom beauty.

With the quality of Doc's knives, it says a lot that he also owns a Campbell creation.

I love the rawhide "turks head" knot (or whatever that is) finger guard. Robin's leather work is just "Severe"...pun intended.

Man that has got to be one of the purtiest knife/sheath combos I have ever seen!! I'm in awe of the talent behind both those creations!!  :notworthy:    :notworthy:    :notworthy:    :notworthy:    :notworthy:    :notworthy:    :notworthy:

Jeremy

Doc, I forgot how purty that knife and sheath combo turned out!!
There's no doubt about it, Doug knows his knives and how to make them gorgeous as well as functional!   :notworthy:
