I have a chance to buy a dozen Carbontech Safaris at about half price of retail. They are a 70/90 shaft with a .200 deflection and weigh 15.5 grs.per inch. I am hoping to use these arrows out either my 58lb. Caribow Silver Fox longbow, or my 60lb. Caribow Tuktu recurve. Will a 250 gr. head soften the spine enough to tune out of these bows? Anyone have any experience with carbons spined this high? Or do I just use this as an excuse to order a heavier set of limbs?  :D

I think you have your excuse, and I'd order them a LOT heavier!

You would probably have to have 400+ grains up front to get them to fly right.

I'd have to agree with Slo.  You'll
have to be in the spear catagory to
weaken that shaft up.

I had to shoot them with 300 grains up front and cut 1" off the full-length shaft from a 66# DAS and 29.5" draw.  It's a "crazy-stiff" shaft.  They're a great shaft, but not worth any price if they won't tune!

I think the consensus is they will be too stiff for your specs. As another example, I got 350 up front and nuthin on the back of a full length shaft and they are still too stiff for my Morrison Cheyenne 64@27. Gonna tap the back of the brass insert and start adding more from the back of the insert. I think another 50-75 gr will do it for my setup....we'll see.

Dang tough son of a gun shaft though! Let me know where you found em for half price if you don't want them...  :D

Using the Trad.spine formula, a deflection of .200= 130# spine at 28". Keep in mind they were spined between 28" centers with a 1.94# weight.

So.... If I order a set of 70lb limbs that might solve the problem. Oh good, another excuse to justify another Caribow order. Thanks for the advice everyone!

Hey guys...you have to leave those shafts full length and the add tons o' weight up front. Try adding a .243 bullet with epoxy before putting in the 100gr brass insert depeding on the inside diameter. The you can add a 100gr steel adapter with a 200gr Ace Super express...that would be 500gr up front...yowza  :scared:
