Is it deer season yet?

Dustin Waters

is it a take down?  If it is... take the limbs off and cut some wax paper to fit under the limbs where they meet the riser.  Put the paper down and then put your limbs back on.  Now use some warm water to clean out your string grooves.  There might be a build up of wax in there that is causing the creeking sound.  It happens every so often with my takedowns.  That seems to clear up the problem for me.

Jeff Strubberg

Recurves are bad for doing this.  Wax build up in the string grooves sort of attaches itself to the string, then cracks or pops on the first shot.

Kodiak magnum  I am scared after reading the thread about Bear bows.

I have several that do that.  I now just make sure I draw it when I get on stand and no problem after that.

I shoot a lot of recuves. Chek-Mate & PSE are my main bows I like to shoot. Both take down & self-bows. What I've found is that yes a wax build up can make the noise, but also if the limb bolts are loose just a touch you will get a lot of noise too. I agree that the wax paper bit works but you might also consider putting on calf-skin silencer pads on both the top and bottom of your limbs just a touch below the string anchors. I've done this onmine and the noise is gone. There are a number of different products out there that are both natural & synthetic. Eith kind will do. I use a adhesive synthetic calf skin on all my bows and I have to say that I'm way beyond impressed by the silencing properties. maybe you might want to give this try. Let me know how it works out, as I would ber interested in seeing what happens.

pointy sticks

Wax in the string grove has caused that on my recurve. Sounds like a firecracker going off when your on the stand. I ended up putting paper towel under the string that day.
make em pretty and shoot em straight.
