It's been a while but I finally got her finished up...... I couldn't pull up the original thread so I'll recap a bit:
We started out with a bandsaw blade:

Drew our outline:

Shaped the blade and drilled our pin holes;

Attached and shaped the scales and applied finish:

I roughed out 4 more over the weekend from an old cross cut saw I scavenged. It's a little thicker gauge and should make some great blades. I like this style and decided to stick with it for a bit.

Unless you are a huge man, that's a great size for a knife.  Nice work!!

what is the thickness of that blade?
Very nice.

T-Mac

Terry how wide is the bandsaw blade before cutting?

Thanks Guys..... I salvaged a couple of old bandsaw blades that were being thrown out at work.... It started out at 1" wide, not to sure about the thickness. It is a thin knife and should be great for caping/skinning.....The cross cut saw blade I'm working with now is a bit thicker gauge.

Dano just what I need another hobby..... Got to admit though I do like making these and the investment outside of time was only $2 for the wood I picked up out of the scraps bin at Wood Workers Source...... Terry

Terry,
Congratulations, that's a nice looking knife.

I made my first one this week using some stock steel (1081?)  I got from a friend, almost felt like I was cheating with him giving instructions.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Now thats a nice little knife. Great job Terry.
I'm waiting on a couple of blades I ordered from Dixi knife works to make my first.
I reckon so

T-Mac

Terry that is really nice knife. I'm a meat cutter and wondered if the blades off our bandsaws would be wide enough for the blades. I'll have to check it out. May give it a try myself.

Terry,

Great looking knife.  It's threads like these that have moved me to do so much more without buying plastic junk.

Cold Steel..... I use my dremel and the little cut off blades..... The trick I've found is not to try to cut radiuses, but rather form rough radiuses with a series of straight lines that can later be smoothed out on a belt sander. I also discovered reinforced cutting blades for my dremel at Lowes..... Man what a difference they make.... I bet they last about 10 times as long as the ones that came with it originally......

Just a comment for you new guys or guys wanting to start something new...... The internet is a great tool for sharing knowledge and experience like this..... But don't let it stifle your creativity by waiting to see if someone else says or does something before you give it a try.......Be an innovator.... If you have an idea give it a shot.... At worst it doesn't work and you come away with some experience. The coolest things I've learned were from newbies trying out new ideas. I've also found that I learn a ton by posting these build along threads, especially when I was learning to make selfbows...... Ya gotta have some thick skin sometimes but you will definitely accelerate your learning curve and the guys here come up with some great advice you wouldn't get by just starting a thread asking "Can this be done?" .... Terry

PS...... Walt we expect some pics.....  :D

Caveman IL

Terry,
How do you drill the holes w/o your drill bit melting? Do you anneal it? Thanks, Larry
Neat knife!!

Caveman...... I cheated a bit there.... I work at a precision stamping shop and one of our tool makers drilled them for me using a carbide end mill ....... Terry
