I've got a bunch of reed for a basket quiver.  Will rit dye work?  If not, what would be a good dye availabe at Michaels or Hobby Lobby that will stain the reed?

Rit dye works fine to dye basket material but the sun will bleach it out eventually. My wife made baskets for years and that's what she used. You could ask at Michael's  or Hobby Lobby for their suggestions for another "color fast" dye.  Pat

What colors are you wanting to dye it?
The reason I ask, is that there may be some different dyes to use, some natural, depending which part of the country your in, and what color your using.

I think theres a build along in the how to section....it may say what dye to use.

you can buy the dye from your supplier or you can use rit dye.  I used rit dye for a pink color for a little girls quiver.  To be honest the colors were much more thorough and muct more vibrant than the suppliers dye.  If you want just use the rit dye mix it in boiling water and let your reed soak in it.  It works really well.  Good luck.  I sealed mine with clear spray on lacquer when i was finished so hopefully that keeps the quiver from fading in the sunlight.
