Love the irradescence of these feathers

the Ferret

Doesn't this look like a decoy to you?

Ron near as I can tell there are 3 bearded hens in this flock. One of them has a good sized beard and it's kinked, real easy to spot, but the other 2 are like this

I have only seen a few bearded hens in VA. One of them I called up and my son killed it. It was his first turkey. She sported a 7.5 inch beard.

I like the hooks on Moe., but any of em would be a treat. LOL

I'm kind of partial to Moe Mickey, think he'll be around come spring time?

I didn't know you guys had that much snow right now, won't be much longer and it will be melting away.......

David

the Ferret

David, most of it is melting now. It's 52 degrees out. Some of it melted into my basement last night so today I'm cleaning up.

I assume it will be like every other year in that he'll be around until 2 weeks before season, strutting and fanning in the back yard, teasing the crap outta me, then he'll pull the dissapearing act like he does every year LOL

Here's a pic of the hen with the kinked beard

That bearded hen reminds me of a girl I used to date in the late 60's. Great pics Ferret.

great pictures ferret. heard my first gobble yesterday while rabbit hunting, got me all fired up already.
Its amazing how they just disapear like that, fortunatly they do just the opposite where we get to hunt, nothing there all year untill about two weeks before the season starts and then turks come out of the wood work. chased em all last year with the bow with only one missed shot at the "big guy" things will be different this year.
I have always wondered why this is thogh does anyone know?
do they have a prefered breeding or nesting ground or somethin? I have never read anything that says they do but then again i never did much research, just curious.

the Ferret

Tim that's interesting. Wonder if you're chasin MY birds   :goldtooth:

more tehn a coincidence?.... maybe. Moe does resemble the one i missed last year   :knothead:
in that case the mystery of where you birds go is solved, they come to NY just beofre the season starts.
