Does anyone shoot the Axis or Epic shafts?Which size for 55@ 28,FF string,recurve.would like to end up shooting 200gr points.Can't decide between 500's or 400's.Oh yea,30in long.Do you have to use the BH collars with glue in BH adapters?

Robert, carbon caster sold me some axis 300's there great, my setup is a little heavier like 72# at my draw bear recurve. The only advise I can give is don't use the brass weight inserts, mine have 100gr inserts and that kinda narrowed my b-head choices. the bow likes 200-225 up front w/inserts I'm going to have to shoot 100-125 b-heads.

nc recurveman,I didn't figure brass inserts would fit in those shafts.I do know that once you glue em in a carbon,you're pretty much stuck withem.If ya wanna get the inserts out try heating a field tip very acrefully until they pull free.Don't heatem too much or you melt the end on carbons.

I'll learn to live with it there to nice to go messing with, I'll try to find a head Ilike in theat range. Easton makes brass inserts for those.

You could go with either 500 or 400,every bow will react differnetly.Is your bow center shot?The heaviest points available for axis is 125 gr.,but with broadhead collars you can use 11/32 points and or broadheads.They just add a taper up to the point for an easier removal from targets for field points or for broadhead use.I shoot Beman MFX Classic 400 with 100 gr. inserts,125 gr.point out of a 61#@27 longbow.It's not a center cut bow so I have to shoot around the bow.I'm not really familar with Epic's,they have changed some the older Epic's or the new ST Epic.They take different inserts and nocks compared to Axis and MFX.3 Rivers sells test kit for Axis and some other carbons.

You are on the border between 500's and 400's.  My setup with a 55 at 28 inch recurve which I draw nearly 28 is a 400 size shaft cut 30 inches with a 100 grain brass insert and a 165 grain broadhead/adapter weight.  Total weight up front is 265 grains.  If you only want 200 grains total up front, you may get away with a 500.

I shoot 60@28 with an Axis 400, 100 grain brass insert and 200 grains up front, with 4X4" feathers. My arrows are cut 29.5"'s.

My brother shoot 55@27 and shoots the Beman MFX 500.  100 grain brass insert, 145 up front and 4X4' feathers.  His arrows are cut 29.5 as well.

You don't need to use a broadhead adapter but I would recommend it

I hunted all this season with axis 500's and i'm shooting the epic 500's now. My bow is 55#@29" and my arrows are 29 1/2" long. They shoot great with 125gr points and std inserts but they are alot lighter than most people like. Total weight for the axis is 398gr and 392gr for the epics. I would go with the 400's with 100gr inserts in the axis with a 150gr point. You can get the brass inserts for the axis but i haven't seen any for the epics.
