Mad Bear

Hello, I'm Brad. Native Bowhunter from canada

I like to think about the pioneers of the modern sport we do. Fred Bear, Glenn St. Charles, Art Young, Saxton Pope. These men all understood that to be a bowhunter, was also to be a great craftsman. Sourcing materials and equipment was a challenge in those times and often times, men resorted to fashioning their own tackle for the pursuit of game.

Well in that regard I am no different and I much enjoy the process of it all. Traditional Bowhunting is already an intimate affair and the crafting of your own weapons and projectiles adds another layer to that thrill of the chase, for me anyways.

Just want to share a video with you all of how I build my own arrow shafts. This is not a how-to. Simply a build a long and a look into my own mad and crazy world. I am always learning and improving my craft, this to me is the basis of what we do as hunters. Learn, adapt, and improve.

Thank you guys for the platform to share, I lurk these forums religiously and read most everything. Its a great community. Heading out to chase turkeys, be well my friends.

Thanks for all the support. Means a lot. I'll be sure in letting you know how the various wood species I experiment with are for arrow shafts. Planning on trying some western hemlock, sitka spruce, and theres a pine I heard about I can't remember the name of.

Have used sitka spruce in the past and those were some solid, straight arrows. My local wood mill stopped selling it so sourcing it on the east coast has been tough.

Have a good day everyone. Any questions I'd be happy to answer. The shafts are 11/32" dia., maybe a hair under after sanding.
