I didn't want to hijack the other thread asking about a 41# bow being adequate for whitetails.
I was blessed to take this buck earlier this month.  I had hunted almost every day (some days morning and evening)since our season opened on September 30 and had taken 1 doe earlier.  On this sit I was 14 feet up a pretty skinny red oak but had a bit of honeysuckle for cover and a huge white oak for back drop.  I got in the stand a bit before 3 and he showed up just before 3:30.  It seemed to take him forever to make his way the 60 yards to me.  He followed a tinks drag rag to within 7 steps of my tree and started to work a new scrape.  When he turned broadside I took the shot--- he was maybe 9-10 yards at that point.  He ran 60-70 yards and I watched him fall.  I knew the shot was good when the arrow hit as I saw a lot of blood.  The trail was very easy to follow.  The arrow had taken out the large artery and both lungs.  The bow is an Al Kimery 3 piece 60" long bow that scales close to 48# @28-- right at 42# at my draw--- heavier than what I usually use ( my Whip comes in @36#).  The arrow was a Beman MFX 600 28" with a two blade stinger for 405grs and @167 fps.
I have used my Whip and an even lighter Pika to take quite a few deer over the years.  I see a lot of 13-15gpp arrow weights listed on these threads for the lighter bows.  I've taken deer with these heavy arrows, but honestly haven't seen any difference in performance between the heavy arrows and arrows coming in around 400 grains.  But all I hunt are whitetail and squirrels.

Good buck congrats. Your right on penetration with a light bow you need velocity besides weigh.

Thanks fellas!  I haven't posted in awhile, but thought this might encourage those who can't pull a heavier bow and want to hunt.
