I've actually never shot anything but wood shafts. Every once in a while I feel like I should build some carbon arrows, but then I grab a handful of woodies, go shoot them, and that feeling goes away.

What's gonna matter most for finished arra weight is what's yer raw shaft weight, and that can vary a big bunch.

My arrows are 28-1/4" long Surewood Hunter Doug Fir in 45lb spine, 145 grain field points, footed self nocks, 3x5" burnt feathers, 2 wiped coats of Tru-Oil, average total arrow weight is 515 grains.  That's 11.5 GPP, which is what I want (between 11 and 12 GPP) for a good hunting arra weight for hogs.

Another thing I've been doing is testing bowstrings for the Maddog EF Longbow.  I built Flemish strings using DF'97, B55 and B50 string material - I was a bit surprised that B50 offered a bit more overall arra flight stability/forgiveness for me, the bow, and my arras.

Interesting finding on those different bowstring materials Rob.

I'm going to have to do some experimentation myself.
