Does anyone have any tips for trying to learn to shoot a tab. Im going from a glove to a tab because it should be a cleaner release, but my arrows are all over the place, mostly left, just barely hitting the target and quite a few miss the target completely. If i switch back to my glove while practicing l, theyre all straight down the middle, thanks

For me a large difference is how my fingertips contact my face so I have to pay a lot of attention on the arrow orientation.   As I cant slightly string blur isn't in the picture so it's challenging.
I haven't committed to the change over yet.  I'm still capable with a glove so convincing myself is difficult.

I've never been able to shoot with a tab.

A big part of it is getting the tab the right size.  you finger tip should almost be in your mouth, almost.  Many folks cut the tab too long.  When I go back to a glove it takes a minute to get used to all that leather.  I like a ballistic nylon tab, just enough to cover the tips of my fingers.

I have to cut the tabs back too or it is left like mentioned.  The only one I've tried that was pretty close was the Eichler tab.  They aren't hard to cut, just do less to start because you can't add more!

I have no idea how many Animals I have killed when I forgot my Glove.  Gloves and tabs are for Finger protection not release aids.

While I certainly am not a great archer, switching between tabs and gloves has never been a problem.

For me I don't have a problem with a glove, after about a dozen arrows to get used to the added bulk.  The nylon tab just seems a bit cleaner.  I like a glove for extended shooting, dozens to hundreds of arrows.  I do have a new nylon faced tab with an extra layer of leather underneath that covers a couple hundred arrows.  As Mr. Green stated whatever keeps my fingers happy.

I have shot both a lot over the years.I shot both well.

Whenever I switched from one to the other it felt awkward for a spell.It felt different.Maybe you just use it for quite awhile and see what happens.Dont give up too quick.I do trim mine shorter typically so my finger tips are not covered by the tab.The srtring wont hit them when you release.It allows you to feel your anchor more precisely.Like your canine tooth or whatever.

I shoot a tab I can't find a glove that I like.

I made the switch early on in my shooting at the beginning of spring. I tried several tabs and butchered a couple right down till they were too short, but once I was willing to get a bit of sting from too short I found the right length on the next tab. I'm shooting 3 under and after 3 months shooting a Rod Jenkins safari tough I found a little tip on using Montana pitch blend waterproofing goo to seal and slick up the Cordovan leather face..I was stunned at the difference! So I went and gooped it all between the two layers and have been happy with the results. But then in creeps the what if's and can I replace the perfection I've achieved if it was lost or damaged in a hunt.. I recently tried a Black widow 3 under tab for like $15 and it was perfect from shot one... so high dollar stuff might not be the only ticket and I am happy with the clean release of this tab..you may have to do a little bit of experimenting to get what you need..get out the scissors. I never got a good anchor with a glove and now that all the agonizing and butchered tabs is behind me its all been worth it..for what its worth. I will say this in closing, there's not anything to be learned when your tired or fatigued. I try to make a change and try it when I'm fresh and in the mood to shoot, then if the results show promise, continue..otherwise give it a rest and come back fresh with a different setup, trim, nock point adjusting, brace height etc all done fresh and rested. Just me..everyone does things differently..

Clearly they are release aids, otherwise you'd see gloves on Olympic archers, and i would have no problem switching from a glove to a tab if they were just finger protection

Don't be afraid to modify the tab to fit, as others have suggested.  Your bare fingertips should protrude beyond the tab when you grip the string with your fingers curved abound it.  However, I suspect you're just doing something different in your release because of the newness/uncomfortableness of the tab. Plucking, perhaps.  Regardless, pay particular attention to your form.  A tab may feel a lot different at first, but it really shouldn't shoot much differently than a glove.  Good luck.

No, they were not designed as release aids, you are wrong, 100% finger protection and nerve damage prevention. The release has to do with the archer not a certain mythical cut of leather. HH shot with a glove, and who beat him in 176 tournaments? 

Again, I have killed over a 1/2 a dozen animals when I couldn't find my glove.

Why change if you are shooting better with a glove?
I would consider trying the tab as an experiment that shows the glove is better for me.
After all, the point of shooting is to put the arrow where you want it to go.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but those  claim that gloves and tabs are released AIDS are the same type of people that claim Snap shooting is target panic.

Thank God Ron Laclair cleared that up years ago here. I know the snap shooting thread debunking that its target panic by Ron is on shooters forum.

Howard Hill was also a snap shooter that shot with a glove,  but he certainly didn't have target panic and no one beat him. I also have to chuckle at the Olympic remarks. Now how many Olympic shooters won 176 tournaments in a row with a release aid tab? 

Gloves n tabs = release aide?

I remember some 25 years ago. When the gold medalist olympic archer missed an eight pointer at twelve yards on live tv.  Must have been the glove.   

Oh wait he was shooting with a tab.
