I shoot a #40 longbow with a 560 grain arrow with a 2 blade head. I was wondering if anybody shoots a 3 blade at #40? I was looking at the Montec M3.

What ever you don't shoot a montec.
Powdered metal has no place in broadheads. They are Mickey Mouse Make Believe heads, that will never sharpen.

I shoot a 45# bow and have used the VPA 3 blades and the Woodman broadheads with success. The VPA broadheads sharpen easy for me and really hold an edge.

Lets make a left turn in this post.I ve been looking at Magnus Black Hornet 2 blades. Some say they are too short and wide. Would you rather shoot a 3 blade or the short wide 2 blade?

cacciatore

I think there must be a limit on everything. Those extra short and tiny broadheads aren't for me especially at stick bow hunting distance

ive had good luck with 40 lb recurve with vpa 3 blade heads. 250's. in the dirt passthroughs on deer, a bear and pigs under 150 lbs. I do spend some time on them to get sharp as I can.

Yes, you can shoot a 3 blade if you tell me what you are planning on shooting.

I'll just stick with my 2 blade. Thanks

huskyarcher

3 blades can certainly work well with a well-tuned 40lb bow, I've taken several deer, hogs, and turkeys with that set up and a narrow 3blade like woodsmans. One really important part of the equation is draw length—40lbs at 26in is no where near the same as 40lbs at 29in.

I've had good luck shooting a 42# pound bow at my draw length with well sharpened woodsman broadheads :archer2:

Squeeze

When shooting lower weight hunting rigs, think about a wheelchair ramp. The long gradual slope takes less effort than a short steep ramp. Same goes for broadheads the long gradual angle like a woodsman or 1 1/8" VPA needs less energy to gain deeper penetration.

SS Snuffer

BUCKY I have been thinking of trying a VPA 3 blade next season instead of my beloved DELTAS. Shot Snuffers for years, great heads but changed to Deltas when I had to drop bow weight.

I've killed the majority of my deer with 40-45# pound bows and the OG wensel woodsmans. No issues at all. I have switched to mainly 2 blades but only for options and I can sharpen them better imo. Still have and will use the WW's as I need. All were pass through. Arrow get hung up on feathers a lot but always two holes.
