We started our hunt yesterday afternoon and have already had several encounters with some deer.  Weather is great.  Couldn't ask for better.  I think this is our 11th or 12th trip.

I'll have to say I have already had the time of my life as far as hunting goes.  This morning hunt is probably in my top 5 hunts ever and I'll be 60 in March.  It started off rough.  I had on a lot of clothes cause it was cold.  Got all situated in my Lonewolf and all of a sudden by backpack falls off the hook to the ground.

You can imagine the noise.  So I climbed down and got it.  When I got back up I knocked the arrow off my bow as it hung on its hook.  I was hot so I decided to take my coat off.  When I did I dropped my phone.  So I got down again and back up.

Told myself to just calm down and relax cause already scared off everything within a mile.   It in no time started seeing deer.  They were coming from several directions.  At about 8:15 I had 9 deer around me within 20-40 yards.  I had a little 8 pointer at 25.  Decided to shoot him cause I'm not what you would call a big buck only hunter.  He was close and not spooked so he was it.  About that the instant I was going to draw I saw a big boy come charging at him from behind.  He ran the 8 pointer off and stood exactly where he had been standing.

I took my shot.  Left to right was perfect but was a little lower than I wanted.  As he ran off I could see blood from both sides.  He ran about 100 yards and stopped and started switching his tail and walking.  I lost sight of him and was worried.  We let him set till 11.30.  He had been dead all the while.  He only made it another 15 yards or so.

What a morning.  I'll never forget it.  I'm going to have Kenny post some pics for me.

Congrats David.

After that beginning to the morning you made a heck of a recovery. Beautiful 10 point.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

dnovo

Great buck!  Really enjoyed the story.

Congratulations on a taking a fine critter.

You Done Good....Really Good.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.
