Trying to convert to a tab

I have been trying to convert to a tab so as to be more consistant.  I have tried a Black Widow and a Yost.  Both cordovan.
I drag my ring finger badly so even with a glove I have a pronounced callus.
With a tab, I am getting bad tail right arrow flight.  Right handed shooter.  I have tried normal hook and deep hook.
Any suggestions that I can try?

Your draw arm elbow is probably too high.  Lower it and you shouldn't have any additional wear on your third finger whether you use a tab or glove.

I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

I will try lowering my draw arm.  Going to shoot shortly.

I think Terry Green had a post on here about when he starts his draw. I could be wrong but whoever it was, they don't start the draw with even pressure on all three fingers. The middle fingers has more.  Probably not saying that exactly right, but you should be able to search for the posting.

That might help you.

I wish you luck.  The best shot I ever hung with shot 3 under with a tab.   I tried and tried to make it work and finally gave up and stuck with the glove.   :o

I don't know if you shoot split or 3 under, but in my experience a lot of problems like you are experiencing with a tab tend to resolve easier when shooting 3 under.  3 under tabs are much simpler by design, and just placing three fingers together on the string seems to simplify grip issues.  YMMV, of course; lots of people are happier shooting split.

Your tail right issue could be a symptom of alignment problems starting with not transferring to the back muscles, leading to not getting the drawing elbow behind the arrow, leading to a tense drawing hand, leading to a bad release.  Easier fo work these things out with a lower poundage bow.  Hard to tell if any of these problems exist without watching you shoot.

If I didn't make it clear,  3 under.  I have tried a Black Widow, Yost, and a Barbee is coming this week.
Even with concentration on back tension, draw arm elbow aligned,  it is still an issue.

I had issues trying to get used to a tab myself with similar issues. I gave up on store bought tabs and started building my own that fit my fingers just right. If the tab is too large you have drag issues like you described, it the tab is too small you get finger contact. I finally had a guy custom build one for me..... With that being said... i still hunt with a glove.

What i found helpful was going back and forth between a soft glove and a tab and getting the finger placement on the tab the same as the glove. Once ya get that down you can shoot either way.  Look up Terry's post on finger placement. That was good stuff.  You can apply the same method of finger placement on a tab. Stay away from a deep hook, and use your finger tips properly.    Kirk

Me too.  What I want to know is how do keep track of them?  I'm always losing them.

I never had any trouble at all changing over to a tab. Putting it more accurately, I don't shoot any worse with the tab than I did with a glove.

For me, kinda like switching from recurve to longbow, takes about a dozen shoots.  Tab is smoother for me, but I shoot glove OK.  As far as keeping track of a tab, buy three and you'll never misplace the first one!!!

Well, I have tried Bateman, Black Widow, Yost, and as of yesterday, a Barbee Death Adder.  So far in m very limited shooting, the Barbee has shown only a little of the tail left problem.
This tab stuff is getting expensive.

Wheels 2 go on youtube and search how to properly fit a tab. It may help, but I think if you just continue shooting a little each day the problem will resolve itself. Good Luck!

Wheels, don't take this wrong... if you got callouses, a tab or glove is only a band aid for an issue and not the cure.

You got a too high elbow or you are torquing the string.... sounds like the latter to me if you are getting tail kick....

And yes, I'm the one that posted about 'pre set staggered fingers'.

Anyway.... wish you the best in figuring it out.

Take care....  :campfire:
