rehydrate with a spray bottle and rebrake as needed, over a sharp edge.

Thanks!
No more tanning solution-right?
After rehydrating and braking, would Neatsfoot oil help?

You need to break it as arrow30 said. It's work. Coulda had it garment tanned for almost nothing and they woulda tumbled it.

Do a facebook search on Laughing coyote project, they show how to soften hides and it works very well, some of the finest brain tanned buckskin I have ever seen.
There is room for all of Gods creatures, right next to my mashed potatoes!

Thanks for the tips, guys. Where do I go for the tumbling processing?

Bowguy67

You need to tumble when it's still wet after the regular tanning process. Best thing now is break over table or something I'd think

Cable it.

Get a 1/4 inch or so braided steel cable--NO OIL.  About 5, 6 feet or so depending upon set up needs.  Fix one end up high the other end down low.   Wrap hide around cable once like a towel around your back.   One end of hide in each hand.  Pull back and forth with some vigor.   Aline the rough/hard edges as best yea can so they are getting worked properly.
