Who still uses Dacron/B55?

I've tried and tried to get more modern. Even shooting an ILF recurve these days and loving it! Metal riser! But I've tried FF,652,8125, D97 and always come back to good old Dacron. Cannot get past that higher pitch sound. I twist them flemish, 14 strands and pre stretch them to scary levels. But I end up with a string that's pretty much already broke in and very stable, with the softest quietest thump on release. Anybody else still shooting these "soft" strings?

Wudstix

I do on my Big River recurve cause John didn't make them FF capable.  My Big River longbow and MOAB sport FF and D97.

I use them in 12 and 14 strand 2 bundle.I find some bows really love B-50-55.I like some of the qualities it has.The feel on the shot can be very pleasant. Its a different feel than low stretch/no stretch FF strings.Sound of the shot is typically a low base tone.I think your high stress pre stretching is a very good idea with B-50.The quality of build on the string can make a difference as well.Alot of guys use it especially on vintage bows as you know.

I shoot FF strings as well.So am not one dimesional on string choice.

Polyester, like extinct B50 and current BCY55, is the only material allowed by IFAA in Historic Bow classes. So, if you want to compete according to the rules w/o cheating, that's the choice. And BCY55 works but requires a bit more patience and prestretching compared to more modern fibers. In case you sling arrows behind your barn, hunt or whatever outside IFAA, make your string as you like.  :)

I pretty much only use and make B-50 Dacron on every bow I own even if it's low stretch compatible. Most of the ones I make are 14 strand max with a few 12 strand .I made
a really nice stretching jig and pre stretch all my strings .
Been making them since around 1993 or so and I have stocked up on B-50 Dacron a few years ago from Big Jim when he had a Christmas sale.

I only use B50 and B55 on all my bows. Most of my bows are vintage Bear bows. Pictured is my 1971 factory camo Bear Super Magnum.

Same here, I just keep using the old string material.  I like the feel and quietness of it.  I have a chronograph and I know it's slower but I can live with that.

I've always used B-50, B-55 on my selfbows. I have a few selfbows I got from other folks that have FF type strings on them, some without tip overlays but for me, I'll take B-50, B-55.
My Treadway bow that I bought in 1999 has a hybrid string with a mix of B-50 and FF type string. You'd have to ask Mike why.  :dunno:

B55 is my favorite for reasons already mentioned.

+1, Pine.  IMO, knowing the trajectory of your arrow is more important.

I bought a few cases or various colors of B-50 back in the late 80s so that is pretty much all I've ever used. It works just fine for me, I'm not concerned about a few feet per second more speed and l like the low pitched sound.

I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

B55 all the way 4 me ...

... not that it should matter to anyone else - use whatever you think is best, there's lotsa subjectivity about bowstrings and lotsa other things in life.
