can i ask if folks can tell me if there is a carbon arrow that is essentially a parallel shaft with maybe the last 10" tapered . Much like a wooden shaft might be.
not looking for the full length tapered shafts.

also if there are any, how they performed for you and their average price point.
many thanks all.

Easton makes a tapered FMJ model. As for the quality I can't speak about the tapered version, but FMJs in general are pretty fantastic arrows, minus the fact that you have to have special tools to put in the inserts (its only like 3 dollars, but still an inconvenience). One thing to note is that they are running around 160 dollars for a half dozen on three rivers (not including cut service/fletching), which is far above and beyond anything near what I would personally pay for an arrow. But if you are really stuck on a tapered shaft and want to make the switch from wood, it might be an option. Good luck.

Side note: in case you are not already familiar with FMJ series, they are aluminum coated carbon shafts. Not sure if that qualifies as what you are looking for or not.

Thanks Osage,
yes i have seen those, but you are spot on, they do seem pretty dear!!
as a gross generalization, i would wager that at those prices, they are out of reach of the average trad shooter.
just looking at options at this stage!!
many thanks

Arrow dynamics had some tapered shafts if I recall. Owned a few and the nocks  would snap off at any hard impact. Don't know if they are still available

Were they full length tapered, or just a rear taper?
There seems to be quite a few that offer full length tapers.

Thanks

Check out their website - they had some rear tapered and parallel to taper  :dunno:

I am sorted enough with black eagle vintage trads.

Not trying to tralk you out of tapered carbons, if that's what you want, but it's not a very beneficial feature on carbons.  Unlike wood, carbons already recover very fast.  Tapering the carbons isn't going to increase recovery time much, if at all.  The small bit of additional feather clearance that tapering yields is inconsequential, regardless of whether it's on a wood or carbon shaft.  One additional small advantage of tapering wood is it decreases arrow weight and increases FOC. A 9-inch taper will reduce wood shaft weight about 25 grains, plus or minus a little, and increase FOC 1-2%.  Carbons are already very light so most don't want to reduce shaft weight even more.  And, it's very easy to increase carbon FOC by 5-25% percent with different end components. But, whatever floats your boat.   :goldtooth:

Many thanks Orion👍

Good info all around.
Oscilloscope Tests have shown that parallel carbons do  recover quicker than parallel woods.
Although back tapered woods recover quicker than parallel carbons.
I was wondering if a significant 10" back taper on the carbons would help it recover quicker.
In theory, it should , for the very same reasons that it does with wooden shafts.

A lot of the carbon tapered shafts seem to have very slight tapers.
That may be the very reason that the recovery rates don't change much.

In wood shafts, the greater the differential between the parallel and the taper rate, the quicker the recovery.
But then again carbons aren't 23/64" though😁.
I do wish someone would build a few with a significant  taper so that they could be unequivocally tested.

I have been a tapered shaft fan since I discovered them in the late 80's.  Shot AD's and had the same nock popping off problem.  Shooting tapered hard woods really helps with FOC, footing the shaft adds more and with 190-250 grain BH they hit like a hammer.

Only one I am aware of is arrow dynamics ptp shaft(parallel taper parallel). On nitrostinger website. I have some 400 spine if interested.

that nock breaking was a PIA... but the solution was before cutting the AD's BOP down we would 1st cut them from the backs just far enough up to change nocks to easterns, then once that's in we would cut for BOP.....
