Im planning a multi-state trip next summer and will be driving from North Dakota south, then east to South Carolina.  I will be able to vary my route there and back as I dont have to be anywhere specific at any specific time.

I was thinking of trying to collect some osage orange for self bows, then realized, I may have some other woods I could collect as well!

Also, I wouldnt mind finding something for some primitive arrows as well!

So do you have any suggestions on woods I could look for along the way and where to look?

I'll have an F-150 and can haul sizes accordingly!

Thanks for any/all suggestions!

Twin Oaks Bow Hunters in Tennessee holds a week long camping trad shoot, bow building, vendor event every year around the end of April. There will be tons of bow wood for sale there.

Roy have they set the date yet? They have not returned my message from Facebook.

I don't know if they have yet.
Pat from down there will be along sooner or later, he will know.
Send them an email through their webpage I posted.

I don't think they have set a definite date but usually it on the last weekend of April and/or first weekend on May. As soon as I hear I'll post the info here and on PowWow.

My best guess, and it is only a guess is April 29,30, May 1(Fri, Sat, Sun). That being said, usually folks start showing up the Friday before. In this case that is April 22.   :campfire:
Usually there is lots of bow staves available along with other venders and the workshop is open to anyone until Fri(29), Sat(30) and Sun(1). On those 3 days the bow workshop is only available to the folks that sign up for the Selfbow Challenge. I believe after 6pm on that weekend the shop is open to anyone and that goes on until the last man standing.
As soon as Pappy posts the official announcement I'll post it here on the Bowyers Bench and on PowWow.

Wish I could be there, would have been interesting, but too far to travel. That Corona crap also restrict travel.

Ill be traveling late May/early June til ???

Also, I was thinking on collecting my own wood, not necessarily purchasing, as in finding and cutting...

Thanks!

The Trees Database is a good reference on where to look for specific species, state by state. Of course you might not be able to cut where the listings are, but it can get you in the vicinity.

Contact me when you drive through.  I might have a few hickory trees we can get some stave from. I am in Western North Carolina.
