Almost ready to glue up a 17" riser. I have to go get c clamps because all my clamps have plastic and I am afraid they will not last in the curing chamber.
How many clamps are needed for sufficient pressure?

3 piece riser...

Pat B

I've never built a riser but I think adding pressure strips(metal or wood), top and bottom should eliminate too many clamps but what do I know.  :dunno:

If it is straight cut pieces 3To 5 clamps
One in center and each end. And if ya want piece of mind one between the others. About the same on curves just need no gaps.

Bvas

I would say at least five. Three to press the pieces together and two for blocks to keep the pieces from sliding side to side.

If you are gonna buy 3 clamps, you better buy 30...

+1. There is no such thing as too many clamps. I agree with Bvas's estimate for a riser, 5 should work OK if set up properly.

This is my last bow glued up on the form, with 2"x1/8" aluminum pressure strips. Roy uses a similar number of clamps on his trilam bows:

Riser being glued up behind the tip,in the bench vise with clamps. Don't tighten to much.  JF

Flem that is cool!

I have a design that needs to be done in 2 stages. Does the first round have to be heat cured or can it be heat cured all at once .

Also, if it has air cured for 24 hours, can it be heat cured without the clamps?

Jeff Freeman

I use smooth on, for my riser layups. No heat cure. Never had an issue. JF

Jeff, how long do you leave them clamped?

Jeff Freeman

12-24 hours pending on room temperature. Until the glue is hard.  JF

I would buy Bar clamps, 12" would be good.
You can't have to many
