Building a Pyramid  Red oak board Bow 72 inch ntn 2 inches at fades. While getting it to basic shape noticed a small knot in limb. Question is do I keep going or burn it? I know any practice tillering would be time well spent but I need it done by certain time for a gift.

Looks tight enough... If it doesn't go all the way through, I'd leave it and finish the bow out.

On red oak..... I don't know but wouldn't trust it. I wouldn't make a board bow with a flaw in the limbs, I tried a white oak board bow with a a small knot in the limb and that is where it failed.

Were you planning on a backing of some kind for this bow?

As long as it is and as wide I wouldn't worry too much about it but concentrate on not hinging that area while tillering. You could always add a rawhide, silk or linen backing. Old silk neck ties are cheap at thrift shops and gives you a design to decorate the gift bow. 

I've played that little "chance the knot game" and lost every time. Especially in the middle of the limb.

You could try, but I would never give it to someone as a gift...

You could put a hard backing like hickory, white oak, hard maple or elm on it.

thanks for all the reply's I ended up scraping the bow I got to looking at the knot and with glasses was able to see the knot run through the bow from belly to back at an angle. I didnt see it when picking out the board but to my defense I didnt have my glasses so to try and salvage it I am going to try and build a kids bow out of it if it works out ill post pics.
