There are a fair number of guys on here that are very devoted to the Howard Hill bow design and I am wondering what it is that you like about them?

The simple elegance of them.

Although I can certainly appreciate the craftsmanship of bowyers who do fancy footed risers with multiple wood combinations, those bows tend to be a bit gaudy for my taste.

Also, a hill style bow is the easiest to make. Cut the limbs to shape and there is little tillering work needed, and never any limb twist to deal with.

What he said. I would add that the type of bow that suits your shooting style is the one you will gravitate too.
The first time I shot a HH bow, I knew that was it for me. Everything came together. Being a snap shooter, I had not shot a bow that suited my style so perfectly. And for hunting on the ground, hiking all day, it's lite and easy to carry, even thru brush. Its the perfect bow for those of us who don't sight to shoot.

Been making and shooting ASL's for 35 yrs and i shoot them better than any other style. I snap shoot and sometimes do not reach full draw. I'm not perfect and the straight or string-follow is the one i shoot the most consistent.

I love them too mostly for their simplistic nature - simple in making them but also I think they look great.  Many of the ones I made weight a little over 1 lb too which for some reason I really like.  That being said I rarely shoot or hunt with them as a R/D is such a better shooter for me.

Man not me!  I really like the reflex deflex longbows.  The Hill style just never seemed to work for me.

I think why you don't like HH design was a different thread :readit:

I like them because they are simple, very light, shoot great and Im a pretty much snap shooter also and this type of bow just suits me, what else do you need.

I don't like the original design at all.... low preload, serious hand shock.... miserable performance unless you start getting upto 65-70#. (They have higher preload at that draw weight)

But.... they look cool....

Hard to say.  Just something about the pure simplicity of it.

Old guys like light in the hand.  Plus, it's handy for pushing brush out of the way.  :)

I'm an instinctive snap shooter as well and the ASL/Hill style well they go hand in hand.
