Do the bingham plans have that option laid out on the prints or do you have to customize that yourself?

I'm pretty sure handle shape is all up to the builder. What they show is  just a suggestion to get you started. You should be able to make it however you want.JF

Hillbilly...  Why don't you just pick out your favorite recurve to shoot and copy it??  Maybe modify it to your liking...

I don't own any one piece recurves!
All long bows. Every one I know has Bear or Howatt recurve, or the very deep high grip style recurves.

Javaman Assyrian and some of the Big Jim's are ones I want to try.

A Damon Howatt "Hunter" is a really good shooter

The owner at Binghams told me I could brace it to 9-1/2".
I would think you could bring the deep part of the grip back 1" and it would be OK

Hey man I'm a new bowyer (at it about a little over a year) and I started with the Bingham Projects plans.  First one I did did seem pretty big, or "massive" would be the critique I got a few times . That was following the plans pretty darn exact.  Since that bow I've gradually gotten braver about removing material and it seems to me that that is what they intended.  The plan leaves plenty of material left so that you can go at it with some sanders and rasps and get to the design you want.
A lot of room for creativity. Both bows used their plans it just depends on how much you remove and your design will change over time as you develop a "style".

This one is much sleeker "flowy" as I got more aggressive with it.  I really like how it turned out but it can probably be taken even further.

The white lines are the same as the pictures I posted and less of a high grip than Binghams.
The Orange lines are modified grip, should be more like a Low grip.
So it would be easy to use a compass to modify over the paper template

The Bingam's 1 piece recurves are glued up on the belly side of the bow with a flat riser section. You're free to do whatever you want on the back side of the riser. You could make the grip area as deep or shallow as you want.
