Well, my back surgery that was cancelled in August was finally done last Monday. DAMN! I am really sore, but the pain meds help. However, this deer season is a washout. Therefore, I need you friends to submit lots of stories, so I can have some sort of hunting season, even if it is through your adventures.

Sam, get well soon, I'll start the stories, I live in New Jersey and own a few acres of land, I don't hunt the property, but leave it for two elderly gentleman to hunt, one is 90 yrs old and the other is 80 yrs old, both have a difficult time getting around, but on my property they only have to walk a short distance to their blinds. This past week I had both out hunting, as I set in a stand next to the 80 yr old , who's name is John,I received a text message from the 90 year old fella ,who's name is Bob, Bob informed me there was a 3pt buck in front of his blind, should he shoot it or wait for a bigger one, I advised him to shoot it, (better to have one in the freezer),fifteen minutes later Bob text me, telling me he had shot the 3pt and direction of flight. I informed him to sit in his vehicle until I arrived. In the mean time John had a mature doe come in, at about 15 yds I watched him make a perfect quartering away shot, I heard the deer crash and marked the spot. My friend was so excited as this was the first deer in 16 yrs he had shot, we picked up a very good blood trail and found the deer about 60 yds away. Upon gutting the deer, we learned that the shot was through the heart, not to bad for a fella that hadn't shoot a deer in 16 yrs. we then dragged the deer to my vehicle ,and proceeded to Bob's  location, where I found him waiting in his vehicle patiently, having a hard time walking, we slowly made our way to his blind, which was about 60 yds from his vehicle, he then pointed to were the deer was standing when he shot, I found blood immediately and followed it for about 40 yds, where I found the deer, while gutting it, I found this deer had also been heart shot, i then dragged it to his vehicle, my friend Bob was full of emotions, so happy he was able to kill this deer.(this was Bob's 3rd buck from this stand over the past three years).I got more that day, then I ever have shooting a deer myself.I did get to gut and drag out two deer, I did get to see two happy hunters, I get more joy out of these two friends killing a deer, then I do myself, at 80 and 90 years old there still out there doing what they love, both will be back during our extended season, looking for that big buck. I wish them luck and hopefully I'll be able to drag out two more deer for them.

Thanks for the prayers and good wishes from all you guys. I am doing very well and only required pain meds for a couple of days. Can't lift anything, but am walking very well. Also, thanks to modr for that cool hunting story. If those two old guys could pull off heart shots at this age, I bet they were hell on wheels when they were younger. Good stuff.

Great, encouraging story, modr.  Loved reading it.
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.

Glad you're feeling better.
