I've had a sheet of .040 carbon fiber laying around for six years. I was always going to use it in a bow build but just never did. Last week I finished up my last gift bow for now so I decided to build one for myself. I went with one of my short, forward handle hybrid designs at 54". I got it glued up this morning. I went with Redheart for the riser, Bamboo cores, and carbon fiber veneers.

Is that a rigid material that you used?

Carbon front a belly ?? .040 is a lot. How much did you reduce your stack.
High on Archery.

I took it down to .020 in my drum sander.

It was more for the carbon fiber look than for performance. It looks great but my arms are still itching from the dust.

What did you cut the sheet with?

Cut with a straight edge and razor knife.

With than fancy carbon look, if it does not work out as a bow, you can use it as a hood ornament :goldtooth:

Oh no...  That does not sound good to me...  You removed have the weave...  Now I am assuming you got a bunch of small pieces of carbon totally relying on the epoxy to hold it together lengthwise...

JGR1269

I took material off the back side to level it out since it was not flat. The front side had a high gloss finish that I sanded for glue up.

Shredd

Well if you went from .040 to .020 and took half the fibers out on a weave, I am not sure it is a good thing... With unidirectional it would be fine...

Maybe someone else can chime in on this...

B-JS

It's used as veneer.
So there should be no issue.

Oh... Ok...     So they are going under glass??

B-JS

If Not, i would doubt, a 0.02 Sheet of 90/0 Carbon will hold the pressure at the Belly.

This, plus he wrote veneers, plus he sanded the High Gloss Front for glue up...
Let me guess, it's used as veneer under Glass.

But maybe i'm wrong.

JGR1269

Yes it is under glass.

I really like the look of carbon fiber.  The bow is looking good!  What are you going to do with the handle?
