Well the brutal cold of winter has me dreaming of spring turkey here in Iowa and Nebraska.

I was at the traditional bow shop the other night and the owner was showing me the string tracker he uses exclusively for turkeys.

While a bit unsightly, I have to imagine it's awesome for turkeys.

Wondering which model/brand you prefer?

Drifter makes the best one. I use them for everything.

I must have done something wrong.  I bought one to use bear hunting years ago.  It made so much noise when being shot I took it off and forgot the whole idea.   

They are noisy, but they do work well. I have shot a boatload of critters with them. I mostly just use it for turkey hunting now. It is a GREAT tool for turkey hjnting. I have recovered several that I probably would not have just because of the string tracker.

I won't go turkey hunting without my string tracker!!!

Chad Orde on here makes the best ones. They are made out of leather, and have several mounting options for a traditional bow.

I agree with Bisch ... the string trackers that Chad builds are awesome string trackers and they look great!

I use one of the leather trackers from Chad at Drifter for turkeys.  They look nice but there is a drawback to them and that is that they won't protect the spool from rain.  There are others available that are are made of plastic and will keep the spool dry in the event you get caught in the rain. If I was in the market for one now I would purchase one of those.  If the spool gets wet it's ruined.  I learned this the hard way on a hog hunt at Wild Things in SC. 

For turkeys in the past I used the Shaft Spider ( on right ). Now I use The Game Tracker ( on left ).   

I've used game tracker for years, turkeys and bear, I have a problem with turkeys flying so they work good on recovery.

I use The Tracker from TurkeyHuntingSecrets.com wouldn't leave home with out it.

I agree Chad's are good and look good.  However they are too noisy for deer or even pigs at times.  I've had pigs jump with it.
I would use it for turkeys but most of the time they get shot while deer hunting.

I use the Game tracker and electrical tape it to the riser.  Works perfect and the tape doesn't leave any residue when I remove it 6 weeks out.

Though some of the nicer trackers are cool looking, I would not do anything different.  It simple and it works.

String trackers are great for turkeys. I use an inner tube rubber band to hold them on.

I made one for each of my bows. Kinda ugly but work just fine. Easy to find arrows when you miss the target. 

I tried them for turkeys but could never get the flight I liked.  They sit in the box with all the other stuff I thought I needed. 

I've tried them several times. Too noisy, bad arrow flight, just didn't work for me.

If its affecting arrow flight, you havent set it up properly. Jerry russell has a good how to on his channel.

This^^^^^^ is exactly what I was thinking as I read some of the above responses! If your bow is tuned well and you have the tracker unit set up correctly, there is no flight issues under 20yds.

I always use one while turkey hunting.  I've shot several, through the shoot through mesh using the string tracker, without a problem. I attach a Great Northern Gadget adapter to my longbow, and screw the string tracker into that.  It works great!

Beyond 20 it does lower impact point.
